Ok, I've got to know, because I'm itching to try these... but, I've seen many mods about how to kill the treble on these. I've read all kinds of stuff about how bright and sharp these are. Treble kills me - I'm just sensitive to it. I'm not kidding. Beyerdynamic headphones = Murder with a comfy headband.
So... with that said, how would these k7xx's compare to the Beyer DT-990 / DT1770? Are they brighter than the Fidelio X2's? VS the HD650's? Are they brighter than the Fostex T40rp mk3? etc...
Any generic treble comparison against popular headphones would be appreciated.
(If this has been asked already, then I apologize... I've read through as much as I could and didn't find my answer.)

ElnrikHuh, that's interesting. I've never heard anyone describe these as bright or sharp. They're on the darker side of the spectrum I'd feel. I'd say the sound signature is more along the lines of the HD 598 or HD 650 but a tad bit darker. Beyerdynamic headphones, especially the DT990 series, just tends to be super sharp on the high end. I personally try to avoid their headphones because most of their lineup has that shrill highs. I generally have no issues with treble, even on my K701 and SR80e, but my DT 770 600 ohm is on occasions too much when the cymbals crash.

EinTheVarianceHey, I really appreciate the reply! Reading stuff on the web can hurt as much as can help, and that is why I wanted to ask someone who have listened to these headphones.
For example, one of the articles I read for modding the K701's stated "[After modification] Most of the harshness and brightness of the audio signature is virtually non-existent. The bass is much stronger and tighter than with the original foam pieces." ~ http://goo.gl/32EhWX
Another states "while the prickly lower treble to high treble penetrate with my well worn K701 pads, they're less offensive on the K7XX vs the K701" I know the k7xx don't sound like the 701, but I'd imagine they're more similar than dissimilar in sonic characteristics. Perhaps a bad assumption on my part. So, if the K7xx sound similar to the HD 650, but darker, I would imagine that they would work for me.
- ! - One last question: Do the K7xx have better bass quantity and/or quality than the HD 650s? I know people describe the 650's as a dark set of cans (probably compared to the other models in the Sennheiser series). I like the 650 sound, but the bass is lacking for my tastes.
Thanks all for your help!

Elnrikhmm, I no longer have the HD 650, but rather than better, I think they are just tuned differently in that area. The K7XX extends the low end better and has a tight sub-bass whereas the HD 650 has a bit more mid bass. To me, the K7XX feels like a warm pair that focuses on soundstage and the low end whereas the HD 650 felt more like a warmer pair that focuses on the mids. Since I also have an HD 600, I decided to keep the HD 600 with the K7XX rather than the HD 650.
One thing to consider also is properly amping the headphones, especially if you are concerned about the low end. Without proper amping, a starved headphones can sound thin and lacking in the low end.
