What would be a good portable Dac/Amp to use with my HD6xx and Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone?
I am new to this hobby. I purchased a HD6XX and plan to use it with my Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone, that has a 3.5mm jack. I was wondering if I needed a portable dac/amp or just a portable amp and if so what would one recommend? Any assistance one could provide, would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Haz

To be fair, my first pair of good headphones was an audio technica M50x and the first time i did hear them i didn't like them. I just wanted to put on my old $10 sony earbuds with my cellphone EQ lol.
It took me like one month using them like 4-5 hours daily to love them... yeah i know it's a lot of time.
I started to appreciate the details and harmony it gives you, that clarity really puts you there in some parts of the songs.
The clarity a good headphone gives you compared to a cheap one is like a "no bass" feeling at the begining, but after some time you realize the cheap ones's clarity is none, and sounds like if you put a cardboard between your ears and the headphone.
All i can suggest you is to try it with different devices (be sure to set OFF crapy features like WOW effects and virtual surround), and different audio sources (i find myself hating Spotify premium's quality, and now i use Tidal which is FLAC audio).
I was so between in M50x, Sony V6 but than I saw this drop and joined. The thing is I like to have the idea of using over ear headphones, really comfortable.
I agree with you about getting used to have the headphones/earphones. I think our ears are getting used to the headphones we always listen.. Because I feel that I am enjoying day by day.
About no bass effect, I agree with you. My colleagues come and want to try, I can see on their face that they are mostly not satisfied because they got used to have bass from their headphones but some friends who are more into quality equipment, they are happy with the result of m220.
Thanks for the advices, I will try it with different sources as much as I can.. and thanks to advice tidal, I havent heard before but I will try for sure.. (I use spotify free, for now its not bad I should say)
By the way, have you tried m220? can you compare with M50x please?
regards
Please have in mind that amplifiers are not made to change sound signature. Some of them actually changes it just "a bit" and they are made to give more power to unpowered headphones to achieve it's natural sound or simply raise the volume.
In your case you have a 55ohm headphones that should be driven easily even from smartphones, so i think it's very probably the computer where you work will not sound better with an amp, and you will get only a volume bump.
