This project has been in the works for a long time, and I'm very excited to bring it to all of you!
We've been talking about how to kick off custom products in Men's Style for most of this year, and one of the biggest challenges was finding the right brand to partner with for our first project. Allen Edmonds is a big name in the menswear scene (and for good reason), and they've been great to work with on this project from the beginning. Many of you might know Paul, the CEO of AE, from his frequent internet appearances (like his recent reddit AMA), so when I talked with him about designing a product exclusively for the online community, he was very receptive.
From there, I worked with designers at AE and members of the online menswear community to tweak existing styles and cater them to the tastes of the community. I'm very happy with the result, and I'm excited to share them with you here, for a great price.
Huge thanks to the AE team, Fok at Styleforum, and all the folks that helped me get this project off the ground. Looking forward to many more to come! I'll update my post with more important info as it comes in.
IanAndersonThese look great, perfect for the fall. I have a pair of AE's Gobi and like them a lot. So the butyl leather sole is the only option? I am hoping to see Dainite or other rubber soles as an option.
N55_E82If you have a store near you, I'd recommend going in for a fitting. I wear 11 regular width in most casual shoes and they sized me for 10D. Hope that helps.
IanAndersonOther than 2 eyelets instead of 3, how does this differ from the Dundee 2.0, which is also on the 1-511 last, features a split-reverse welt, and is available in 2 of those colors?
kentymanQuick notes:
-unlined
-different outsole (I think theirs are double leather)
-different pattern for the uppers
-different heel
-different leather (both type and color)
m2511I don't know what the Dundee uses, but I doubt they're exactly the same. We just called ours that because they're words often used to describe these colors.
IanAndersonThe leathers are different types from different tanneries - "snuff" is a tone range, not really a branded color. The Dundee uses a traditional suede (split leather) where this shoe uses a reversed leather, so while it is unlined it will feel a little more substantial than a typical unlined shoe.
