Looks like a great knife. I already have an esee 4. Not sure what makes this knife better. I understand the intent and that the blade steel characteristics are different (vs 1095). But ESEE design their knives based on field testing and user feedback in different environments such as jungles, polar, etc. it’s essentially a field serviceable tool that I would guess does have some concessions in manufacturing costs. I am not a survival or knife expert, but I am an extensive budget steel user and they certainly have a place in many situations. Can anyone tell me how the Guardian compares?

LazarusLongI have an ESEE 4 and a Bradford Guardian 4. The Bradford feels a little fancier, and DAMN the black nimbus blade looks amazing. The Bradford gives you more for the extra money you pay, and it's worked on by Brad himself, in the materials you choose - so it's not a ripoff by any means. But all ESEEs that I've tried hit this amazing sweet spot where everything is perfect for what they are. Handles are simple but work really well. Blades are the perfect mix of thickness, length, etc. They're just really well designed. You never think "but..." when you use an ESEE. So in my opinion, the Bradford G4 is not better at all. This G3.5 looks pretty simple (like an Izula 2 in fact!) and i haven't held it, so I can't judge it. If you have the money for a nice, slightly fancy knife, I doubt you'd be disappointed. It's rare to be able to choose materials like this, too. Hope that helps!

LazarusLongOh also: - I'm not suggesting any copying of the Izula here; more like "great minds think alike" - ESEE kydex sheaths are really awesome, while my Bradford leather is so-so (I bet Bradford kydex is great)

LazarusLongI've handled both and the Bradford knives are far and away better quality especially the G3 and G3.5. The 3.5 seems similar to the Izula because his customers requested something with a handle more similar to that knife to facilitate various grips and accommodate larger hands/gloves. If you like ESEE you will be impressed with Bradford both in terms of comfort and enhanced cutting performance...it is a knife after all. =)
