Hi there,
Our vendor is back in the office from the holidays and confirmed that they're going to be shipping the shoes trees out to all drop members in early February.
We apologize for the inconvenience and oversight and look forward to getting those shoe trees out to all of you as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Community Support team: https://www.massdrop.com/support
That's the idea of Massdrop though, right? If someone had told me a few years ago that I could get some new HD650 headphones for $199 I would've said "no you can't".
Either way, these look like decent shoes for a decent price if you live in the US, but for me, living in another country, the import duties and fees on footwear mean it's cheaper for me to buy some Church's shoes at retail pricing locally.
SmithyNZYes, that is the idea behind massdrop. To group buy to get the price down so that peoole can try out more expensive products at discount.
However, Carmina shoes still don’t get below $200. Might find on their website shoes going for $275+ In the outlet category.
Massdrop basicslly gets MTO shoes at close to Outlet prices. All things considered its a pretty good deal so long as you like the style. I am not a fan of wingtips or full brogue so I had to pass.
I think the dovetail just goes back to a day and age when the glue was not very good. It is just a combination heel adding a bit of traction to the heel. The dovetail was adopted to allow the rubber to stay put longer (reducing horizontal trnsion). Its the increased surface area. Similar to a dovtail joint in woodworking. Conversally, you have more corners to get caught on your walking surface.
I would think that today, the dovetail is mostly aesthetics.
