How well would this work as a rainfly for two pitched without the inner?

Logan96Tons of space for two without the inner. I like to put the poles at a bit of an angle so they are closer to the center line of the shelter, and then there is plenty of room on each half for a person.

dandurstonWould you recommend this usage? Any conditions where it's more/less appropriate to pitch the outer as the only shelter?

MoxxieUsing just the fly would be well suited for conditions where you aren't worried about bugs and want to go very light. If used for two people, this would be an extremely light approach that would still provide protection from some factors (wind, rain, snow).
Two people carrying just the fly and a plastic groundsheet would have a shelter that protects them from wind, snow and rain for about 18oz for two people. Or if it's just wind you're worried about, then you could leave the groundsheet at home and go slightly lighter.
I used just the fly for a 120 mile (200km) 3 day trek in Montana this May ("Bob Marshall Wilderness Open") where I was mostly worried about rain and wind. I skipped the groundsheet and sleeping pad and just slept on my packraft.
If there are bugs or quite soggy conditions then you'd want the inner since it protects from bugs and has the bathtub floor to hold back flowing water.
