The Stratospire2 that I thoroughly enjoy using with my co-hiker for awhile now is incredibly well designed and functional. Last year I was in the market for my first solo shelter and the one thing that I wanted to depart from the SS was a more simplistic pitch. For myself who only goes on extended backpack trips 1 or 2/year, relearning a non-trivial pitch each time was something I wanted to try and avoid. But I've learned with the SS design is so roomy, that it can allow awkward pitches at times and still be completely fine, just an occasional slight annoyance at end of the day for setup.
I've only had my solo shelter for a year and still made this purchase. I will likely keep my current solo since it is smaller and easier to setup in tight areas. It just is not great having the less room in bad weather conditions that I've longed for in the SS.
One question I have is how flexible is it to raise/lower the pitch for added ventilation or protection at the ground level?

StormsearchThanks for your support.
Re. the SS2 complexity - obviously I feel the same way. If there's a way to have the space and function of the SS without the complexity that would be amazing, which is what the X-Mid is. I think you'll find it has all the benefits (good headroom, generous vestibules etc) but with an ultra simple pitch and lighter weight.
Re. ground ventilation. Yes you can do this. There is about 5" of cord at each of the four corners with LineLoc3's. So if you want to lift the tent up a little, you can pitch it with these cords extended to the max and the tent will lift up a couple inches. Or vice versa. The LineLoc3's make these very easy to adjust. If you want to seriously jack up the tent, then you'd want to extend the four corners a bit longer with some extra cord.
Also note that you can totally open up both sides while the inner stays protected from vertical rain, and the twin peak vents are quite large and have struts, so ventilation is about as good as possible in any tent.

Stormsearchlifehack: when I want to pitch an outer fly higher without pulling up the inner net/floor I use hair elastics to add an extra inch or two on that connection. (works with a Khufu mid at least)

KatherineKThanks Dan for the info. I was really pulled in with your positive review of the SS2 and carry similar characteristics over. Now just have to wait.
Thanks also Katherine, as much as I love to follow BPL and some others, this is a limited hobby for a few of us so helpful hacks such as this is appreciated.

UnnamedpeaksYes. You can pitch it right to the ground.
