Dan, I'm already in but really excited actually seeing the ease of pitch in your video. My current tent is a trekking pole tent but the pitch always involves a little of by-guess and by-golly to get it right. Difficult to do when plagued by mosquitos or falling rain. I plan to order a set of Ruta Locura 450 CF adjustable 43" poles to go with this tent. I assume it will accept the spiked ends that Ruta Locura offers and that the spike will go in the grommet at the peaks of the tent. Correct?
schifferjGlad you excited by the easy pitch. I totally feel your pain on setting up fiddly shelters while plagued by mosquitos. A simple pitch was a big design goal and thus why I spent so much time trying to figure out how to make a rectangle based shelter work, rather than defaulting to the hexagon.
The Ruta Locura spike is designed for grommets and the X-Mid uses a normal grommet, so I haven't seen the RL poles but it sounds like the right tool for the job. I'm not sure what the adjustability range is on the one you're ordering, but you'll want a pole that adjusts in the 45 - 47" range for the X-Mid. Typical pole length is 46 - 46.5" (43" is the height o f the X-Mid inner, but the fly peaks are spec'd at 46").

dandurstonJust as a follow on in case others are considering these poles RL recommends a length 4" shorter than your desired length as the adjusters have a span of 8" - a 43" pole with adjusters will span from 43 to 51."
schifferjGood to know.
If folks were to order a fixed length pole, 47" would be the way to go even though the fly is normally 46 - 46.5" because 47" would work at a slight angle to hold the fly at 46", and wouldn't be too short if the pole dug into the ground a little or was placed in a bit of a dip.
