dandurstonOh thanks...all short trips. I'm just not in with these super minimalist ultralight tents that use ski poles to support them...mainly because I'm old and I like a more traditional tent...even though I use a Sierra Designs Flashlight FL 1...which is different, but not so much. I bought a similar tent to that one made my Six Moon Designs and just hated it for some reason. Interesting color here though. Yours may be better though, as I look more cloesly.
NoTrailFair enough. I think a lot of minimalist shelters are either a hassle to pitch (most of them) or don't have much headroom (the single pole ones), which is what I am trying to avoid here with the rectangle shape and 4 stake pitch.
As you say, the Flashlight isn't that different as it also uses dual trekking poles or straight tent poles in their place. But yeah it's more traditional in the sense of being a bit larger and heavier.
Comparatively, the X-Mid would be 8oz lighter (28 vs 36oz) and a full double wall tent with a simpler 4 stake pitch, plus it has peak vents and a lot more vestibule space, whereas the Flashlight has a larger floor area, tougher fabrics, pitches in smaller sites and is perhaps a bit larger inside due to that extra pole at the foot end.

dandurstonI hear ya DanDude. The space required for mine is quite small, which I love. I agree that on closer inspection your design is interesting. I could not find a web page associated with your brand...does one exist? I spend about half the time in a tent and half in a hammock depending on the camping location. I pretty much only spend one or two nights out...no long distance stuff for me, for I am scared of the dark and wild creatures. : ) I like side entry tents and the two doors here make it more versatile. What is the length of poles required if not using ski poles? (man evolved from a 4 point contact system many years ago and I have no intention of going back there)
NoTrailNo I don't have a webpage. I've been meaning to start one to provide more info on the tent, but all sales will still be through Massdrop because they are the ones building and selling them. I'll likely put a website together over the winter.
If someone is using regular poles rather than hiking poles, then the length is the same the ones in your SD Flashlight (46"). I'm not selling those but lots of companies sell custom poles in any length for applications like this. Ruta Locura sells some nice ones: http://www.rutalocura.com/tent_pole_450.html

dandurstonI was hoping those poles would work...thanks. Do you know who is the parent company of Massdrop?
NoTrailI don't think another company owns Massdrop. They started in California is 2012: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massdrop
