I don't see the weight listed for the 8 titanium stakes. Can you share with us? Weights
  • Fly, including guylines: 18 oz / 510 g
  • Inner: 9.9 oz / 281.7 g
  • Fly + inner: 27.9 oz / 791.7 g
  • Stuff sack: 0.4 oz / 10.8 g
  • Stake sack: 0.2 oz / 4.6 g
Kjf27They are 6 gram titanium shepard hook stakes. Stakes are a difficult thing to spec because there is no stake that is right for all conditions. We sided with these stakes because on hard ground they will work well for all the stake points, whereas on soft ground they wouldn't hold well enough, but they would useful for the secondary guy out points (e.g. at the bottom of the doors). If we opted for wider/heavier stakes for more holding power, they would have worked on soft ground but been heavy and prone to bending on hard ground.
So they're sweet, light stakes, but not perfect for all conditions. If you plan on camping on softer soils I'd add 4 wider stakes for the four corners such as MSR Groundhogs.
Including 8 stakes is pretty generous in the sense that you shouldn't ever need to carry that many. If you want to go light you can carry 4 stakes (for the four corners). I prefer 5 stakes so I can add one more to secure the small side of the door (see video). That's usually how I hike, but I'll sometimes carry either 1 extra for a spare, or 2 extra so I can stake out the peak guylines if the conditions are windy.

dandurstonA buying option without stakes would be nice. I already have too many.
ErickLOriginally I was leaning towards offering it without any included stakes and then having several stake package options, because I know some folks have stakes already or will need to buy different stakes for their circumstances. I was thinking about partnering with a high end stake company, but those packages would have cost a lot more than the cost of these included stakes and time was running out. Since these are just basic ti hooks, they hardly add anything to the price. It might be $195 without stakes. If nothing else, having more stakes lets you keep a set with each shelter, so you don't run out the door with a tent and no stakes, as I have done.
In future production runs (a long ways off), we might be able to offer a wider selection in a few things (colors, stakes etc) and I would like to provide more options for stakes (or lack thereof).

dandurstonThanks. There's cost but i'm also trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have, and if there's something I have too many of is tent stakes. These stakes have to come from somewhere, like a new mine in someone's favorite backpacking area.
ErickLFair enough. Reducing consumption is good. I certain agree with that goal. I will pursue having no stake options in the future.
