Just got them in today, I'm really quite impressed. I've got my HD 25-1 II and MD X Porta Pro on hand and I must say with only the stock pads and NO eq out of my HM 601 the Massdrop X E-MU Purpleheart sound better than the HD 25-1 ii with a parametric curve customized for it!! Great job guys these sound fantastic, well balanced with a nice smidge of fun, the build quality is nice too! I lvoe the minimalist head band and ACTUAL metal sliders for the headband mechanism!!! I will say the only down side to these is their lack of isolation which for me isn't a big deal...
Compared to the Koss Porta X Pro, the notion that it sounds better depends strongly on your preference in tonality and how much you value resolve and imaging, as the tonality is different, a bit thicker and a lot more FUN! But frequency aside, the Porta Pro isolates even less than the E-MU PH and doesn't resolve nearly as well. There's the lack of low bass extension to start alongside a much more congested imaging overall. So it's by no means twice as good nor is it half as good... maybe about 67% of the technicalities for half the price!
That said, just with stock pads, I'm really impressed with these! Nicely done!!!
