Eli35According to Headfi Pro82 thread:
Some say it has clarity and resolution approaching those of Stax.
Some say it has bass approaching those of TH900.
Some say it has soundstage wider than those of M1060.
Some say it is the most comfortable headphones, ever. Period.
I don't know. My pair is on its way. I guess you just need to spend $65 and find out yourself! All board the hype train!
datyetiGet from Takstar Audio Store on AliExpress. Most reliable Pro82 seller. Comment HEAD-FI and wait for seller to adjust price for $5less. Then proceed to pay.
Tysun I own the Pro82's and one of the early posters/adopters on the Pro82 head-fi thread. I said it in the thread and anywhere this headphone hype train is brought up and I'll say it again ... but these sound like what you'd expect 60-70 dollars to sound like, nothing more, nothing less.
- Never heard stax but these sound ever so slightly veiled compared to my thinksound ON2's. But unllike the ON2's I have, there is virtually no mid range.
- Bass is NOTHING like the TH900. I've heard the 900's and it's not even in the same ball park. I leave mine at 2 ports open because any more the bass gets bloated, and any less, they seem slightly anemic because of how the treble sounds slightly veiled compared to my thinksound ON2's.
- Never heard M1060, but soundstage in its stock form was average. It's on par with the V-Moda M100 (with the larger pads) I used to have. I slapped on a set of brainwavz HM5 angled pads and it got a lot better.
- Comfort is good. However, again, in its stock form, my ears touch the inside and it gets a big warm and the pads are pretty thin. With the brainwavz pads, it made it a lot more comfortable. It's probably because of how loose the headband is, with the upgraded pads, it's one of the most comfortable pairs I own. I actually have a slight seal issue because of how loose it is and I'd say my head is larger than average.
Overall, I ended up giving them to my girl friend to use because they are not the headphones that punch above its weightclass that everyone is touting them to be. The thinksounds are $149 currently when they're on sale here, or 155 on amazon and I can easily say it could compete with headphones in the 200-300 dollar rang. Only limiting factoring being its on ear design, which makes sound stage non-existent.
I listen to a mix of instrumental music, electronic, and jazz.
TysunI have auditioned Stax (SR-407 + SRM-007) and I own a pair of TH900. Nothing can compare to Stax in clarity and nothing could compare the bass of TH900. I have read some review says that TH900 is the closest sounding dynamic driver headphones to Stax and I fully agree with that.
TysunThe takstar pro 82 have almost an identical sound to the Sony mdr-A1. I have both. The sliding tabs on the backside of the ear cups to gain bass, I have mine open all the way for the most bass and sounds just standard bass. The Sony's A1 has more bass but a hint sloppy. The takstar has less mid bass also. Both headphones are great sounding but the Sony outshines by a tad. comparing sound to cost, the takstar is the better choice. At 65 vs 300 dollars, I think the sonys have come down a lot. Somewhere in the 150-200 dollars.
A pair which punches above it's price point but obviously it is not a mythical creature which the hype claims it to be. Of all the headphones which I own it sounds most similar to Sony MDR-1a. Not surprising as Takstar looks like an imitation of Sony.
I have yet to compare MDR-1a vs Pro82 directly due to having one pair in the office and another at home but from the back of my head they r similar, with Sony being the warmer of the two and Pro82 having more details resolution. Comfort wise Pro82 slightly wins and in fact their ear pads configurations are almost identical. Pro82 wins in regards of features as it has adjustable bass ports.
If you are in the market for a closed pair of portable headphones and wouldn't want to pay full price of MDR-1A, get Pro82 you will be equally happy. P/S: Those big TAKSTAR logo on the sides are ugly.
deshanI had some financial issues and could't afford them after all, I'm making a huge effort to not buy headphones anymore until my economical situation is 100% safe (not easy tho).
deshanI finally managed to find a chance to compare my office pair Takstar Pro82 and home pair Sony MDR-1a as direct A-B. DAC SMSL SU8, amp SMSL SAP II solid state & Loxjie P20 tube hybrid.
IMO, Takstar sounds better. More controlled, faster bass (adjustable with the "bass slot", third slot is junk tho), clearer mids (vocals, acoustic instruments) and crisper, non piercing highs. Soundstage are similar in both sets. Both of them seem not to care whether they are plugged into tube/solid state.
In contrast, MDR1a has Sony's old house sound which has the typical " average consumer oriented sound" if I can put it that way. In comparison with Pro82 the Sony's bass sounds less coherent , vocals seem veiled, and there is no crisp in the highs.
End of the day, I will pick Pro82 over MDR1a anytime, every time. Pro82 being more comfortable is a bonus, not to say MDR1a is uncomfortable in anyway tho. One thing about Takstar is that when you fold it over to place it on your neck, it will awkwardly fold in a way that the ear cups will be facing outwards, unlike the Sony, which is more conventional with the ear cups facing inwards.
If only one can look past the fugly TAKSTAR logo on the cups.....
TysunCheck out the new Cooler Master MH-751 headphones. They are rebranded takstars that fixes that fugly look. Z reviews just did a review of these on 2/26.
