Which headphones of Drop's currently available?
I have some rewards points to burn but there's no obviously good options on Drop right now for headphones Contenders Ultrasone - maybe? I don't own any Ultrasones, so curious. Looks like garbage travel headphone which could be useful also. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. - Maybe? I have the DT 880 Good price point, really uncomfortable headphones but could be interesting to try the upgraded version. E-MU - strong contender but $400 is a bad price point for what it is. Which of the above would you choose and why? Nothing else on Drop is relevant to my interests, because Already own 6xx 820 800 s Ether cx Garbage / Consumer grade Meze 99 - garbage bass canons, hard pass No gaming headphones obviously Sennheiser wireless - no to wireless/bluetooth Hifiman - I have 2 of drop hifimans and they make really bad cheap shit on Drop, hard pass on HE-R7DX Aeon - I own the closed, Drop refuses to address #padgate so no reason to buy open Beyerdynamic 177x - wireless, nope Too similar 8x / 560s...

(1) If you don't share his preferences, his reviews can inform you without necessarily helping you to choose the sound you prefer.
(2) Tyll's reviews can reflect conflicts of interest / relationships with companies even though he tries his best to overcome those limitations. This should not be interpreted to mean he is a shill; far from it. Tyll is like an ethical politician (if you don't consider that an oxymoron): he cannot say certain things.
(3) He might be inclined to give one pair of headphones an extra chance and another an especially critical listen based on what sort of listeners they target and who is likely to buy or enjoy them. This is an attempt to be fair, which I appreciate and many readers love, but it isn't always a reason to be swayed. I enjoy reading Tyll's reviews. I especially like his openness and casually phrased knowledge, which can spill into some of the comments right beneath the reviews. But I'm a veteran studio musician who favors either reference or detailed-but-relaxed headphones. I rarely share Tyll's personal taste in sound, just as his laid-back writing style is not one I'd choose for myself.
My comment about Tyll was half ironic ^^
Can't speak to sounds I haven't heard, mate (because apparently, we're either gorillas paired during a mating ritual or are pretending we live in the UK). In cases like this, I tend to wait for the next drop after gleaning like-eared foonts' impressions.
That purpleheart is darn keen, Sport o' mine, but red-tinged accessories would clash with my pallid aesthetic palette, and earspeaks have been accumulating in my digs since 1995. Perhaps I'll forgo this fetching non-upgrade and leave it to those for whom the word wood means several things simultaneously.
