I'm happy I looked at this and saw it was made in China, I'm not against buying overseas goods, but for a $200+ quilt I'm going to do my best to get from a domestic company. Was looking forward to getting one of these, but I'm going to keep looking.

StrangeI saw that as well. Enlightened Equipment quilts are made in Minnesota. I don't know why these would be different, unless these are just a licensed version. I think i'd rather pay the extra $50 to get an original in custom colors, it 1-3 lead time.

StrangeThat's for their on the shelf quilts. Custom are completely made in MN. These massdrop ones are comp, etly made in China. According to massdrop, EE has ensured every detail will be made to their exact standards and will meet or exceed them. Idk. I'm still weary.

Johnk6It's not a licensed version. It's being manufactured at the same place in China that does their off the shelf Revelations. If people want to save a little money on their EE quilt by getting this one that's 800 fill, made in China, and 1 color choice, 4 size choices, they can. If they are OK spending more, they can get custom 100% MN made EE quilt. Just depends on the individual's situation. :-) for me, I bought one of these, and will buy a custom as soon as I can figure out the exact spec I want. :-)

Johnk6I just can't get myself to pull the trigger on one of these. I would really like an EE quilt but there are other cottage companies selling quilts with the same specs, made in the USA for $179. I also get to customize it as well.

radchad3Which companies? I'd love to save money!! I need a quilt for my dogs, but it's hard to spend over $200 for one.. since they might damage it. Please let me know which cottage companies sell for less than this. Thanks in advance!

CardamomteaI was referring specifically to UGQ as someone stated above. Don't see any reason not to!

radchad3UGO doesn't appear to be any cheaper than EE. I was looking at sewing my own, but just the raw materials cost almost as much as buying one. I'm not sure how anyone could make one of the same quality as EE for much less money.

Johnk6I'm interested ONLY in quality and supporting the many cottage industries that make excellent outdoor gear especially when it comes to MY camping gear. I am willing to pay more for a quilt [or hammock] who loves what they do.Check out Hammock forums to see a list and many many reviews of the cottage industries products!

Johnk6Agreed. I looked up having one made (by UGQ) to the same specs that I'm having my EE quilt made (I didn't participate in the drop because I had a really specific need for my winter bag, and ultimately wanted the Enigma rather than the Revelation), and the cost is within $15. Even quilts from ZPacks, also made in the US, are more expensive. If you have your quilt made-to-order by any of these companies, you're going to spend more than $180. I think some of the comments here are making assumptions that ALL of their quilts are sewn in China, but not the case. You're spot on that, for the same quality, it's going to cost at least as much as EE.

CardamomteaIf I'm going cheap and it's Chinese made I'm going with the Double Diamond Costco for $19.99. I'm surprised how durable it's been with my dog. Since shes smaller I can at least double it over for her and it's a lb. I'm going to get her a bag so she can carry it herself. She even has a $6 wish bought tarp , I'm going to put in there too. But for me spending $200+ on an item like this I'm looking at UCQ now. Even if I decided to get the renegade and it costs me more in the long run. Also should get it sooner.

mbeeezyWell, UGQ currently has a 20% off sale. I can get their Bandit bag, 20 degrees, 72Lx55W, 22-23 oz for $169 + shipping, made in the USA. I have no skin in the game with either EE or UGQ. I really just want to know why I shouldn't order this?

radchad3I don't think anyone is telling you that you should or shouldn't order from either company. I would hope you're an adult and can make your own decisions? But if a company has a sale, that's great! That's not their standard price, though, so it would be misleading to suggest that UGQ consistently sells them at that price. EE typically has a sale on Black Friday, but I wouldn't go around quoting the sale price as standard.

radchad3Though, if you are looking for legitimate feedback as to whether there is any reason NOT to order from UGQ, there is no reason not to if price is really important to you. For me, weight is the most critical piece, as opposed to cost. I ordered the EE Enigma (which has the sewn foot box) for $283 (that includes $13 for shipping, and it comes with a cotton storage sack.) I got the 20F, short length, regular width, 850FP, in purple and yellow, and it weighs 16.76oz with a 1-3 week lead time. The same quilt with UGQ, which I cannot get the exact specs for size on because they just have a chart that doesn't give any insight regarding the sewn foot box, comes out to 19.71oz. and, with all of the things I get with EE, costs $264.95, with a 4-6 week lead time. And, from what I can tell on their site, that is WITH the 20% discount. So, for me, UGQ is a no based on ALL combined factors. Hopefully that gives some helpful insight.

StrangeOn you are one of the lucky ones! I read about that Costco item on either BPL or Hammock forums, but right now Costco isn't selling it. I'm still keeping hope they will bring it back later this season... it appears you can getvoit for $35 on Amazon, but I like shopping from Costco. My dogs sleep in the tent with me right now, but I want to try out hammock camping, so will need to figure something out for them... I saw someone on hammock forums had a double decker hammock..!

mbeeezyThe sewn footbox with UGQ is very well done and adds I think 2oz to the quilt...that info is on their site if you read down below on the product page (might be in another section of the site also/instead...have not looked lately). Plus you are getting usually another ounce or so of down for the same temp rating as with EE's models (you pay for this extra down of course, but UGQ has consistently had fantastic pricing on down for the last 2-1/2 years, and that's a very good extra ounce to have...plus you can add more if you want instead of going to the next warmer model as EE makes you do). They're both great quilts, but one company likes to play the numbers game over the warmth game, which is fine for how most people camp (mostly temperate weather). If you really want to focus on weight and maintain the warmth, then go full custom on sizing and materials with Nunatak, where you can get everything you want, exactly what you need, and nothing you don't. It'll cost a bit more.

StepbystepThanks for the feedback! Weight was pretty critical for me (more so than cost), largely because I practically make an entire bed when I'm backpacking. I think for my needs right now, the Enigma at 20F will be fine, but I will definitely look into Nunatak when I feel comfortable exploring alpine regions. I've been using a 50F quilt from Big Agnes for a while, and I've used it down into the mid-high 30s by wearing warmer clothing and bringing a warmer bag liner, so I think any quilt I get at this point is going to be warmer than what I have. :P But this is great info and gives me something else to save for, as there is very little else I need in my gear lineup.
