I dont know why there is so many negative comments with this quilt.
It just needs a couple of days to loft and a bit of redistribution of the down.
It is truely fantastic value and well made
rustyjusRustyjus, I was with you on this comment until I got mine, laid it out for a day, and then measured the loft. It is clearly insufficient. It does not measure anywhere near the 2 1/2 inches EE says should equate to a 20 degree temperature rating. It looks flat and empty when I lay it next to my other 20 degree Revelation (which I have used down to 30 degrees). If I were in the market for a 35 degree quilt, this one is probably still a good value - but I am not interested in a 35 degree quilt. I wanted a 20 degree quilt.
Kjf27How much did it measure to? I wonder if that is the difference between the 800 fill massdrop version vs 850/900 fill EE version?
I have 3 EE bags, 20 and 40 degree Down, and the 50 deg Synthetic (Apex) Revelation, and would recommend
- Why 3? I use a layering system to match the season/weather. 20deg +40deg = the loft of the 0 deg bag. with only a minimal weight penalty, but a bonus extra baffle :D
- All are Reg/Wide and fit me well at 6ft, 220lbs
- Reg/Wide fits/works as an under quilt for the WarBonnet RidgeRunner
l3db3tt3rThe loft measured just under 1 3/4 inches. That is a far cry from the 2 1/2 inches of target loft for a 20 degree rating (as confirmed by the EE website).
The fill power of the down should not impact the target loft in any way. Fill power represents a weight to volume ratio. Temperature rating is related to volume of fill. Lower fill power just means the fill used to get to that needed volume weighs more than would a higher fill power down (and is lower quality, shorter life, etc).
l3db3tt3rThank you so much for sharing this! I just bought a Ridgerunner, and thus have no underquilt. I do have the Revelation Reg/Wide, and was wondering if I could get it to work as an UQ for the time being. How do you hang it? Any special instructions? Thanks!!
Cardamomtea- I use those small "S" clips, with a very small hair tie (elastic band) to connect all 4 corners. The elastic just gives me a piece of mind, that I won't rip something, but spent several trips using it without those.
- It can be fairly loose underneath, I have also started using the pad strap to connect over the netting to help bring it closer.
Enjoy your RidgeRunner!
