Hi all, We have an update on your Massdrop Made product. Production is now complete and the Massdrop x Eric Ochs Orca Titanium Liner Lock Knives have arrived at our warehouse. During quality control checks, we noticed that some of the blades were not sharpened at the same angle completely through the heel of the blade where it meets the choil. To make sure that every blade meets our expectations, and those of Eric Ochs and most importantly all of you who have been waiting patiently, we have shipped all of the knives to Eric’s workshop in Oregon. Mike Jones, our Product Lead for Blades collaborations, will be joining Eric next week to help with unpacking and the inspection of every item. Then Eric will be personally sharpening any blade that needs to be touched up. Because of this, we’re tracking behind our original estimated ship date and now expect to begin shipping these items in early March, as soon as they return to the warehouse. We apologize for the delay. If you prefer not to wait the additional time, you can cancel your order on your transactions page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions. Thanks so much for your patience. We’ll be back with another update when the Massdrop x Eric Ochs Orca Titanium Liner Lock Knives return to the warehouse.

JaleesaG@mike.j I’m surprised Reate made a mistake like that. I own a bunch of Reate Knives and they are all incredible!

DougFLA123Hey Doug, We have also come to expect perfection from Reate and all of our manufacturing partners. It's possible we could have shipped all of them and only a few people would have noticed or cared but it's really important to us that every single knife is up to the community's high standards. We've visited their facility and seen the blades being ground by hand; that means hand grinding blades often yield amazing grinds and finishes but does leave room for human error.

awkHey Awk, Hah, I'm sure you could but not everyone may be as comfortable with sharpening as you are. Sharpening a consistent angle is one thing but changing the grind is a whole different story. We wish these were shipping on time but doing it right is better than doing it quickly.

JaleesaGThis is very good news. Reate has had consistently slightly off sharpening jobs on the knives I’ve bought from them, and hearing about the additional QC work has me hesitating on canceling an order I previously wanted to cancel. I think people will be very happy to have their knives arrive in perfect condition. :)

JaleesaGJust saw the email on this. While my hand is itching to have the Orca in it (especially after the informative and fun Q&A), it's reassuring to hear that QA is such a thorough department (hey, just noticed the Q&A/QA look similar). Plus, the idea of having a knife personally inspected and possibly sharpened by the man himself is just incredible. I'm sure there are a thousand things Eric could be spending his time on other than a production collab. The personal attention of the maker makes it worth it to me.

JaleesaGIf all these are going to Eric, any chance of getting engraved blades or something else special with the delay, maybe as an option for folks who are willing to be extra patient? I for one would be willing to pay for such a service, and be an even more loyal customer!

JaleesaGHey thank you. I'd much rather production go long and every knife ship out perfect than to get the knife on time and feel disappointed by the grind. Good job!
