Hey everyone,
We hope everyone is enjoying these, and wanted to provide some additional context for the conversation around the pocket clips on the Crux (which is the same design as used on Falcon).
We’ve been reading comments in the Falcon discussion and monitoring the support requests for that drop closely, and have found the total number of clip-related claims is under 0.5% for 2500+ knives delivered.
While the data doesn’t show us there is a widespread problem with the design, we recognize that members were looking for a bit more flexibility.
So, based on your feedback, we’ll be taking the following actions:
1) Introduce a modified clip design on upcoming releases of Ferrum Forge Falcon, Crux, and any future models that are designed to be compatible with this clip style beginning in 2018.
2) Make replacement clips available for purchase, also beginning in early 2018. We hope to sell them for $20 or less, and to keep them in stock if there’s continued interest.
3) Provide a $5 credit toward the purchase of a replacement clip for anyone who purchased a Falcon or Crux with original clip design. Credits will be given automatically to any members who join the first drop for replacement clips, in the form of a refund issued when the drop ends.
Thanks to everyone for helping to make a great knife even better, we’ll send an email to everyone who’s purchased a Crux when the updated clips are available. Here's a rough preview and comparison of the old/new designs:

JonasHeinemanFantastic, thanks for acknowledging this and taking this action -- I'm sure the whole community appreciates this a lot! Personally I have had no issues with my clip, but do see that it may be a weak point in the future. It's nice to know that replacement clips are available.

JonasHeinemanI think overall the original clip design is good except for the thickness at the thinnest section. The rough draft doesn't seem to remedy that and seems to remove a lot of strength, also. Add a little to the top of the original to give it just a little more strength and smooth the transition where the screws are to accomodate the extra thickness and it'd probably be a home run. Anyways, kudos for not doing stamped sheet metal or bent wires.

RussBThe issue was the strain being put on the thinnest section; increasing the thickness would mostly just increase the required force to flex it without reducing risk of failure by a significant amount (limiting factor here is mostly elastic limit of the titanium given that the flex angle isn't changing). What they're trying to do here is provide a greater area to share the strain, resulting in less stress on any given point.

JonasHeinemanFor those that bought both knives, will we get credit for a clip for each knife?

JonasHeinemanGlad MD finally acknowledged and is working to fix the design. Not bad to give credit to the original/1st drop customers. No rush but excited for the redesigned clip!

Threw this together in solidworks. Dimensions are probably off by a bit, but I think something like this would be perfect.

pixllYes, the credit(s) for clips will be issued up to one per previously-purchased knife. Anyone who buys the new clip, we'll run all of the purchases against the lists of members who've joined past drops for Falcon and Crux with v1 clips.
For example, if you bought 2 Falcon and 2 Crux, and then joined the v2 clips drop with 4 clips, you would get $20 refunded after the drop ends. If you only joined the drop for 3 clips, you would get a $15 refund. On the other hand, if you joined only a past drop for 1 Falcon, then joined the future drop for replacement clips and bought 3, you would get a $5 refund (bc only one knife). Hope that helps to clarify.

JonasHeinemanGreat idea! How about doing anodized runs of these clips so it's not just correcting a potential flaw, but also giving some options to customize the knife?

JonasHeinemanDont you think $5 credit on a new $20 clip is a bit absurd considering the majority of buyers will be purchasing this new clip due to failure of the original which should/would be covered under poor design manufacturing flaw/warranty? It would make sense to give at least 50-75% off of a new clip if not one free per knife imho. I have three FF in which one of the clips is bent/broken and I am fearful of even using the other two clips so I just pocket carry....whats the point of the original clip if it isnt field use functional, and where is the guarantee this wont happen with the redesign?
Dont get me wrong, I love the knives but it seems the clip design was kind of overlooked and now no one wants to own up to the issue and fix it, well they did "fix" it with a redesign making improvements to profit even more.

JonasHeinemanJonas, I bought a "Crux" on the secondary market. I love it BUT would like to get the new version of the pocket clip once available. Can you let me know how I can be notified of when & how I can buy one please? Best, Gregg (mistermaui@earthlink.net) from Los Angeles Ca.

JonasHeinemanPlease, by all means, let us know when the new clips are available. But, I would like to add that the clips should be offered at a DEEP discount. I do not feel that using the consumer as part of the ‘research and development‘ that FF should have done in the first place should account for additional expense to own the knives we already bought. That’s simply is not fair. Massdrop, please see what you can do about this.

AJAugustExactly!! Not to mention the ridiculously early funding for these drops.

AJAugustYes. There should be one per knife at $5 to cover raw cost and a buck postage. Then maybe $10 price tag for extras. Or non-warranty needs.

JonasHeinemanI see that Falcon owners with broken/bent clips are provided with replacement clips free of charge. Will Crux owners receive replacement pocket clips as well. After all, they have the same pocket clips and the same issues...

ScrimEveryone who joined the drops for Falcon and Crux with original clips will get emailed. If you bought it secondhand, just make sure you are getting daily emails for Blades and you will see it in there.

JonasHeinemanSo glad about this. I just sat down this morning and my knife bit into something on my chair and bent the hell out of the clip.

JonasHeinemanDid this new clip design ever get dropped/built? I have a crux that I EDC and the clip upgrade would make it even better if you still have any more available.
