I try not to play favorites with my knife designs, like any good parent, but sometimes you get the feels for a design a little more than its siblings. The Dao just might be my personal favorite of the Massdrop X Ferrum Forge knives, so far... I have carried the Dao prototype since last year and have really come to love it, not just for it aesthetics, but for it functionality. I have big hands and even though this knife has a slim handle it still seats very nicely in my monster mitts.

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksYou guys have been killing it with these collabs! The dust is still settling from the Bucc and another one comes along!

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksHow's the frame spacing at the blade heel vs the Buc? I'm gonna end up cutting myself on the Buc at some point. Does the Dao share the same dimensions?

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksLooks great! It's a shame us lefties are excluded again.

PapaWasTakenThat extra screwhole on the front, that's to move the pocket clip to that side.😉

Archienj7The ambidextrous carry in the pocket is a nice touch, for sure, but Ferrum Forge exclusively designs righty liner/frame locks for their Massdrop collabs. I've only seen one Massdrop collab knife from any designer with a lefty frame lock option, for that matter. My whale is a titanium folder with a lefty frame lock, a blade made from S35VN steel, with a clean design that puts function over form. (Basically, I just want a lefty Crux.) The only place I can even hope to get a knife like that for less than $400 is a Massdrop collab, but Massdrop's been silent about offering a lefty variant of any of their knives. I've tried contacting Ferrum Forge about it, but their reps have been silent, too.

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksThanks for the awesome knives. It makes it possible for people like me (living off vet benefits) to enjoy really awesome knives with great designs and materials. Thank you.

Archienj7moving the clip is nice but try using a knife with your left hand and you will see it’s a bit uncomfortable for extended use. I do use “righty“ knives and am used to it but would like to see a lefty knife.

Gunnersmate2Thank you for posting that heart-felt thank-you. I feel the same and am now in a fixed income situation as well (disability). There are quite a few of us in this dynamic little (over 1 million strong, lol) community. We are being treated to fantastic—yet reasonably priced—midtechs, learning new things and sharing experiences, and building relationships with makers and key players in the knife and metallurgical worlds. As well as being burgeoning fields with virtually limitless potential growth and interest, these fields are a fascinating melding of science, art, hand craft, tools, and even the evolution of our society and culture: there is something here for virtually everyone! Sorry to ramble on in the best tradition and breathless excitement of ‘Fandom‘. Call it my own passionate ‘thank you’ and agreement with your comment, Brother, lol!

AxeguyI agree and the fixed income dynamic has been difficult at times to get used to. I have to check my excess spending at all times because it's not when will the price go up but when and how much. Most all of us in this community , depending on your resources, learns that our income never matches the inflation, not even close. Sorry to hear your on disability but thank God we have that option. Enjoy your knives.

FerrumForgeKnifeWorksWhere do we get replacement parts? Massdrop doesn't offer them. Ferrum Forge Knifeworks doesn't offer any replacement parts for any massdrop collaboration knife. This is an issue

PapaWasTakenHave you seen the current Massdrop X Gravco Thresher drop, which has three (3!) different design options offered in genuine lefty versions? Hope it's in budget for you, and you see this before it closes (sometime in a.m. on 1/10, I think); if not, at least this drop is a chance for us to show MD there's a market out here for more such offerings.
