Does anyone else think it's strange to have Massdrop branding on the actual blade? According to the video on the product page, Massdrop basically facilitated the logistics between the designer – Ferrum Forge – and the manufacturer – WE Knives. So ... why does it look like this is a Massdrop Knife?

libohoundMassdrop participated to the design, from what I have learned. And that includes also involving the community (people like you and I) in the early design stage, and even sending prototypes to enthusiasts for feedback (I have received a prototype or two myself).
This is not the first such occurrence, there are a lot of other such Massdrop-collaboration designed products offered here, in many categories (headphones, flashlights, outdoor equipment, etc.).

libohoundBecause it was done in conjunction with Massdrop. Check the FF article about this. It will only be sold through Massdrop. Expect more in the future.

BobrazWell now I'm sure the Falcon will be great, knowing that such a well-respected enthusiast such as yourself was present during the design process Bobraz. ;) Seriously though, that's great that you were invited to participate and got to handle some prototypes. I'd like to do that myself sometime.

libohoundThink of it like this: Spyderco collaborated with Marcin Slysz on the Slysz bowie design. The knife was and is produced in Taichung, Taiwan by an OEM knife company that Spyderco contracts to for many of their high-quality knives. It's branded Spyderco with Slysz's maker's mark, as well as the city/country of origin.
In the case of the Falcon, rather than acting as a vendor Massdrop is in effect the knife company, collaborating with Ferrum Forge for the design and contracting with WE for OEM production. Essentially that makes this a Massdrop produced knife, possibly the first :D

libohoundHave you not seen the k7xx or the hd6xx? Massdrop branded. And, personally, I like it.

MDDogeIf the Boker knives they've done exclusively hadn't already had a history, they too might have been branded Massdrop. They're sure known as Massdrop only knives. Massdrop is getting a name in the EDC & Audio community. I hope more custom makers consider this as a route to get their designs in the hands of people who otherwise couldn't afford it. Sadly, there's always going to be the "Chinesium" stigma. There's people who won't touch the Todd Begg mid-techs because they're manufactured by Reate and WE.

HellreaverPlus, the K7xx got really good reviews, which TBH, was a surprise to me. Considering they overcame a lot of the comfort issues of previous versions.

Clutch_CargoA lot of people have the Chinesium stigma on the k7xxs. A lot of people have been spreading the rumor that they're still made in Austria, but massdrop addressed that. Now that I've got them in hand, though, I don't care at all. Anything can be made in China at the same quality as in America, it's about the supervision of the process.

Clutch_CargoI had to check my Massdrop Boker earlier to see if it was branded anywhere. I was a little surprised it wasn't but your reasoning makes sense. In this case Boker was still the production company whereas Massdrop was just the exclusive vendor, similar to any of the Knifeworks, BladeHQ, or Knifecenter exclusives.
I love that Massdrop is taking a shot at production in the EDC knife market as they have been for a while with audio. Personally I've never felt that Massdrop offered much as simply a vendor of goods, of which there are several others that offer the same or slightly higher prices without convoluted shipping/handling/returns. What Massdrop excels at though is being a community platform. It's not perfect, but still brings the consumer much closer to the production process than it's competitors. I'd say Massdrop is rather unique in that respect, and I can think of no better use of their strengths to date than the Falcon drop.

libohoundIsn't this community great?! Everyone steps up to provide content, advice, info, etc.πŸ‘
Unsurprisingly, sometimes flame wars will happen, but the fact that they can even be allowed to flare, also is a testament to Massdrop's openness, minimal and light moderation, and general embracing of the enthusiast's community.
Sure, Massdrop will make me bankrupt and my kids will go to clown school, but by Jove, I am going to have a blast while they empty my pockets! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜œ
