Where can I find a list of other knives that are made at WE? I have stumbled upon a couple others now, and all seem to be very high quality, and good value.
Can't we get this kind of quality and save money making it in the US?
I know, wait for the robots, then there will be no labor cost; and everything will be inexpensive. But then what will humans 'do'?
ConsumerAdvocateYou can go to http://www.bladehq.com/cat--WE-Knife-Co--2234#W and see most of the WE knives that have been released under WE for sale in the US. They also might have a few more that are in the release process at the official company website http://www.weknife.com/plus/list.php?tid=58.
They've also made a few knives, like the War Admiral, for VDK knives. There are bound to be other designers that have WE manufacture for them given the quality of the work they do. WE seems to be following the growth path of Reate which sadly means the prices will be going up soon...
ConsumerAdvocateA post-scarcity utopia brought on by robot labor is a dream really. Robots are owned by someone; those few who own the robots will own all of the capital as well as the entire needed workforce to produce more capital (the workforce at this time would even be capital itself.) The growing wealth disparity now would look positively egalitarian compared to this future where billions live by the charity of thousands. And given how tightly the wealthy cling to their elevated positions and fortunes at the present, I have no reason to suspect they would support a communist solution (incidentally this is a rare scenario where communism would actually be preferred and function). One caveat though, is that there's little point to producing anything with the robots without the consumers to buy what is produced. So at least there is an incentive to provide money to the masses, though in what form that lop-sided deal would take I don't know.
A bit dark for a Massdrop thread though, sorry :P
I too wish we could get this kind of quality from the US without being custom priced. The folding knife market is hardly the first one to fall to Chinese (or Korean, Japanese, etc.) supremacy though.
MDDogeOh God. Please stop and enjoy your f'ing life. People have been saying what you said for hundreds of years.
MDDoge is just another miserable leftist. No different than the ones in the 1960s who said the world would run out of food and clean water in 10 years.
TheOneAndOnlyLeftist? What? Did you even read the part where I said communism doesn't work? What kind of leftist doesn't embrace further automation and progress, or the utopic future that progressives always strive for? My stance is a reactionary one, I fail to see how that's indicative of classical left-wing mentality. Further, "Left vs right" is too reductionist, and your analogy to idiot hippies making inaccurate predictions makes no sense. I'm not talking 10 years, I'm talking hundreds. The discussion I paraphrased is one experts are having, not stoned granola crunchers. Labeling me whatever political side you dislike, and using it as ad hominem just makes you look too simplistic to discuss politics with. Regardless, I'd rather not turn this into a political discussion, so I'll simply leave it at this: your assessment of me is way off.
