Before going into detail about this knife I'll just share a few pics of it, I know that's what most people want:

So after getting to play around with this knife for ~week, I must say that I am utterly impressed with it. It screams quality. The knife feels very sturdy and does have some good weight to it. The knife flips open with almost no effort at all, I LOVE it. I found myself constantly opening/closing it just because it was so satisfying.
Unlike a lot of knives I've owned, this one has no flex between the blade and handle when open. It definitely feels like a knife that can take a significant beating and still work perfectly. It is a knife that is made to be used. The screws are also very sturdy and won't strip when taking the knife apart to clean. Thank god. I've had too many decent knives ruined by cheap screws, and finding replacements is just a PITA and not something you want to do for a knife in this price range.

livingspeedbumpThanks for talking about screw quality, something typically not discussed despite being imo very important.
On a related note, one thing that attracted me to this drop was the chance to try out a WE knife without dealing with their proprietary fasteners. They aren't a deal breaker, and I'm looking at picking up a 703, but that this knife has regular torx is a big plus.

livingspeedbumpyours looks like it's blue frame and stonewashed blade as opposed to the brown frame and satin finish that everyone else gets. what gives?

Secret_Agent_ManSN# 0006 is the same knife I sampled. The knife has a grey (not brown) frame and the blade has a satin finish. The bluish hue and darker blade are just an effect of lighting and color balance.

TherocBlue scales and stonewash look awesome though. I hope they make it available later on.

Secret_Agent_ManI'm honestly surprised they didn't do blue scales as its a Massdrop exclusive. I think it would have looked really sleek!

BiggestMacI think they chose to try to appeal to as many people as possible and ended up going too generic with the color choice.

livingspeedbumpDammit! My wife is probably gonna kick me in the nuts when she sees I have bought this (maybe not since I won't get it till December lol) but I so badly want a 2nd one now. I could keep one in my new get home bag (Velox II from 3VGear.com) and keep one in my knife collection for when I want to carry it. I have a decent little collection of blades and up to now my custom Bastion D2 flipper is my creme de la creme and a badass blade. I know this one will be even better.

livingspeedbumpLooks great! Thanks for the pics.
The quality looks really good. Can't wait to get mine.
Wondering, now, if I should go ahead and get a second.

Secret_Agent_ManCamera white balance. It's a straightforward gray Ti. At this price, I'm sending mine off for "color adjustment" anyway. There are some great guys that will anodize the scales, anodize or cerakote the hardware and acid or stonewash the blade all for about $100. I still can't believe it's such a long wait! Ugh.

Secret_Agent_ManEasy! Go on Instagram after you read through.
2 people I can HIGHLY recommend are razoredgeknives.com and fanaticedgeknives.com . To get a better idea of what they do, see the zillions of customer knives on instagram. Most of the regarded youtube reviewers use these 2 guys. JDCutlery in SoCal is also great, but right now he's only doing knives he sells. (He plans to change that soon but only has so much bandwidth).
For a good idea of the quality, VDK knives (war admiral, pioneer of the nile) uses FEK to do all their customizing. Every knife on their website that's not plain Ti and stonewashed blade is done by FEK. http://vdkco.com/ Also in regards to FEK: On youtube, check Birdshot IV (war admiral) and Doctor Frunkey (ZT 0392) for samples from FEK. He does bright anos to deadpool distressed and everything in between.
Razor Edge on the other hand does incredible regrinds of knives and scales, and specializes in cerakote (amazing stuff). So he will do a drastic sculpt surgery on a knife. Check Doctor Frunkey on youtube, and the blade regrind RE did on his Spiderco Nirvana. People have copied this on instagram now it was so cool.
Both of these guys have great prices, but as demand increases, so will wait times and prices. I was thinking of buying an early model ZT 0801 just to have RE resculpt in in their bark pattern and do a distressed cerakote. Jurassic Blades also does great blade work. Once you're on instagram, you'll see they're all friends, and you'll find even more. Everybody has their own style, so take your time and have fun searching! In fact, you might try contacting Ferrum Forge either directly or on instagram and ask their thoughts. They're very communicative. I'd assume they'd use somebody in SoCal.
I will definitely check back in once I have work done, and will do so sooner if I get a knife done before (which is more than likely at 6 mos.) Like I said, if not a new ZT 0801 for a drastic pimp, I've got a rather vanilla Reate Hills I'd like done.

mikael22Lmao! Naw dude it's for sure my denero but she'd probably say "why don't you buy something for the house...". We all have our hobbies, she has purses and fingernail polish and I have knives, flashlights and eventually watches. Lol

TRexSr For a simple knife? Perhaps to sit a little more your authority in your couple… or change your wife.

mikael22Everyone I know who knows about my knife collecting passion says the same thing though. It makes sense when you think about it; a knife is a tool so why do I need several (or tens) of the same tool? They accept the (to them) legitimate answer that knives have different designs and therefore different functions, but collecting them seems strange to most. That's why it's relatable to TRexSR's wife's many purses and fingernail polish varieties. Eventually your bases are covered and additional items become superfluous, yet the collecting continues. And hence the advice against too much waste naturally follows. I wouldn't say that means a "wife change" is needed.

MDDogeI too could have easily read the "tone" as not so funny but "it's all good" and no offense taken from Mikael. Not everyone has a hobby or 7 (lol) but for sure my wife doesn't really give me any grief. She knows we both do as we are able/comfortable in doing and no more. We're still spending on our new house but it's ok to have a few personal toys in the meantime. Currently loving my new Maratac 90 degree AAA light.
