#477 i bought this on a whim, never had a nice knife before. this thing is nice. feels so precise/exact. didn't come super sharp.
feels so nice it may be too fancy as a daily driver.

gdoteofThe way I read this, it would be like a "4 of 5 stars" review, except for out-of-the box sharpness - does that sound right?
I think it's really cool that you took a chance on this as your first knife, I hope you're pleased. One question and one comment for you:
* How do you test for sharpness? Our samples (#0248 and #0249) both sailed through paper and fingernail tests, so I tried shaving some hair and they did just fine with that (pic below). The edges are done by hand, so they may vary - we definitely want to know if that's the case - just curious what your standards / methods are so we can understand if there is variation within the production run.
* "Tools, not jewels," as a very good friend of mine would say. This thing is tough as nails, so don't be shy to use it - just not as a pry bar, please. Took me awhile, too - but I think once you carry it a bit, you will get comfortable with this. Falcons gotta fly!

JonasHeinemanI'll say this Jonas.. I am not a knife guy. I did however try and shave my arm like.. the very first thing I did and it didn't shave me; this was actually the basis for the comment. I thought it was probably on purpose since a super sharp blade is presumably more fragile.
Not to say that it was dull by any stretch; but other knives I have played with have shaved me; so that's where I was coming from there.
After seeing the good job it did on you, I will try it again myself this evening and see if my technique was bad; but I doubt it. Not sure
Beyond that, I have little capacity to judge a 5/5 knife vs a 4/5 knife. I will say, I have never before held a knife that felt so 'good'. It feels precise; no wobble, etc. Overall I am pleased with the purchase. Indeed, I almost can't think of another way to describe playing with it beyond 'pleasing'. It just feels super duper good in my hand.
I would not go so far to tell others to buy this knife; because I don't really know what this knife has to offer over another knife in the same price range.
maybe i will be able to bring myself to carry it around ;-)

gdoteoffwiw, I took a few more swipes; i did get some degree of 'shaving' when going ATG but not really WTG which i was trying originally.

JonasHeinemanYour reply raises a giant red flag. Using two consecutively made knives as your quality control sample minimizes the likelihood that your sample is representative of the population, and is a bad choice for QC (at least according to my many years of stats classes and work experience). Many factors that cause variance in quality will change very little, or not at all, from one knife to the next (unless, of course, the serial numbers are meaningless and applied randomly and do not actually reflect build order). Also, a sample of two is far too small for a population exceeding 500. Using a sample that small to ascertain quality is like using a stopped clock to tell time. You'll miss far more issues than you'll detect.
