Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in this collaboration! It’s one of the most exciting for our team because it represents our first step into knife collaborations. This product is also exciting because it’s a three way collaboration between Massdrop, Ferrum Forge, and WE Knife Co. We’ve covered the Massdrop and Ferrum Forge parts extensively in the description, but we know country of origin is a VERY popular discussion topic on all knife drops (brought up in 90%+ of knife discussions) so we’d like to address it. This knife is designed in California and made in China by WE Knife.
Founded in 2000, WE Knife is located in Yangjiang City in the Guangdong Province of China, an area famous for making knives, kitchen sets, and other hardware. After 14 years of producing products for other brands as an unnamed manufacturing partner, the company sharpened its focus on precision knife making and changed its name to WE Knife in 2014.
WE Knife has been on the forefront of innovation ever since, setting a new standard for manufacturing in a country that’s often misperceived as having a low bar for quality. Thanks to a professional research and development team, high-quality CNC machines, electric discharge machines, laser-engraving machines, titanium anodizers, and more than 100 carefully selected staff members, WE Knife manufacturers knives at the highest tolerances. The result is enduring, near-custom knife quality that american designers are excited to associate with their name.
All this is great, but as LeVar Burton used to tell us on Reading Rainbow, you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s a few words from Chris and Elliot at Ferrum Forge that talk about why we’re working with WE:
“The decision to go with WE Knives was very daunting for us and came at the end of an exhaustive search for a manufacturer that could produce the precision we need to see as knife Makers. WE Knives blew us away with their capability to produce the level of quality and precision that we demand and is necessary to make our designs. They have the precision machinery, professionalism, and the experienced team necessary to build high quality knives that broke our presuppositions about Chinese manufacturing quality and gave us the utmost confidence that WE Knives is the best option to bring the Falcon to life” - Chris and Elliot of Ferrum Forge
Finally, a quick reminder that the Falcon will be serialized, and the first 400 purchasers are guaranteed a serial number below 500.
Thanks again for your interest in this drop and don't hesitate to respond to this post with questions. I’ll be here to answer throughout this pre-launch period and at various points during the drop.

WillJust received my knife today and thought I'd post my initial impressions. The fit and finish on the knife is spot on. The back spacer is nicely flush. Blade centering is right on. The blade grind is even. The blade is nice and sharp, cutting through newspaper exceptionally smoothly. The action is snappy either by light switching or push buttoning. The blade cannot be opened one handed with a thumb flip using the cut out in the blade. It can be opened one handed using a pinch grip on the blade cut out. It can be easily opened two handed. The blade easily clears the detent ball upon closing without having to reposition my thumb on the lock bar. The knife has some heft to it but is nicely balanced in hand. The balance centers on the finger choil when open. I can fit a three and a half finger grip when not using the finger choil. Half of my pinky hangs off the beak of the handle. With the choil I can easily get a full four finger grip. Access to the lock bar could be better to ease in fully releasing the lock bar and especially the detent ball from the blade. The detent ball sits prouder than I've seen on any of my other knives. Not sure if this was a contributing factor to another member's detent ball falling loose. The clip is terrible. It has too much clamping force. Because of this it takes two hands to clip into shorts or jeans pockets. The clip is also machined way too thin. I figure it was done to give the machined clip some spring for retention, but it goes too far. Poor design decision. I can see why one member has already had their clip bend back on them. All in all a good knife.

gustafariHaha, I just came here to post about my detent ball falling loose. Or rather blasting it's way out of my knife during a flip, and shooting like a tiny cannon ball into my side. Despite it's small size it almost hurt. This is mildly annoying since I've had it only a week, but mostly just amusing. Now to find out if it's possible to acquire a replacement lockbar insert and detent ball.

i wish it were that easy. mine sucks because of the detent. mine and a bunch of other peoples will probably fall out eventually since they are so tough and raised out of the lockbar. its really annoying to me.
Ive been recently been hearing alot about we knives and detent balls falling out. seems to be a quality issue that they need to focus on. i wont buy anymore we knives. including the gent because of the way i got my Falcon.
i do have to say tho, i like the Falcon as a left hand knife more than right hand knife. but that detent is what really is killing me here. @Will whats the take on returns or replacements because of crappy detents? mines not inserted deep enough, its really hard to deploy and it most likely will pop out like the above guys did.
also looking ahead, can you talk to we knives about this issue. as its happened on a few other we knives models. would suck to keep happening on the massdrop ones.

JonasHeinemanHi JonasHeineman, first off I'd like to say that my Falcon has very quickly become a favourite. The action on mine is quite good and I love just sitting and flipping it, close, repeat.
On the downside, a few days ago when I was walking down the sidewalk I moved out of the way for a group of people and ended up scraping up my pocket clip on a concrete wall. I was really disappointed because it was only a couple of days old so I contacted support to enquire about purchasing a replacement. I was told you don't sell individual replacement parts and it was then suggested that I request the drop again so I can buy a new knife. That's a bit unrealistic just to get a new pocket clip. It also has me concerned that we can't purchase any replacement parts for these Massdrop produced collaboration knives and makes me more hesitant in considering future drops of this sort.

elneroYou can more than likely send it to a modder and get the scratches fixed in one way or another. Bunch of modders in the knife world. Or just live with the scratchs. It happens. It sucks when they cost a lot more and it scratches. But it's a tool, bound to happen. Use it.
Some companies have replacement parts for sale. but even then, not for its lifetime unless it's the same clip as one that's currently in production or the generic steel clip. Doesn't bother me cause I'd just upgrade to something custom. Carbon fiber clip would look really good on it, heck even mokuti titanium clip. But I see the concern. The parts they have are for warranty service. So they need them for that.

elneroIn comparison to steel, titanium is pretty soft. This will happen when you scrape it by MOST surfaces. It's not really scratching the surface so much as damaging the sandblast finish. Those matte sandblast finishes on titanium knives ALWAYS scratch up in fairly short order.

PigmonkeYYeah, scratches was maybe not the right word to use. I carry and use my knives so scratches are expected. This was more of a few deeper gouges. I was in the process of working on taking some pics of the knife so I would have liked to have an unmarred clip. It's not a huge deal but I was surprised that some common parts like this won't be available outside of warranty issues.

WillAfter 6 months and 125 dollars all I can say is what a disappointment. 1st it looks and feels tiny, 2nd it still had shavings on it, almost looked plastic, 3rd seems too much space inside for a small knife, I know the back is thick but they could have tapered the back channel toward the tip. A good 50 dollar knife not 125. It will not replace my cold steel as an everyday carry or get an honored space in my knife bag. I will stick to my mucusta's and kizer's which have been awesome. Not so much here.

JohnslivaFWIW - I was literally at the Mcusta factory in Seki yesterday, where I showed them the Falcon and they asked to keep one because they were so impressed. In particular, they were intrigued by the detent and action (they don't make flippers...yet), and were blown away by the selling price. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I'm sorry that you were not as impressed as others have been. Thanks for the feedback anyway.

JonasHeinemanIf it were 2 inches bigger I would be in love. The action is smooth as butter and the steel is sweet. I wont use it as an edc as it is too small and i would lose it in a week. The quality is top notch but for me size does matter. It is like being teased with one shrimp on the appetizer, I just wanted more :). As a reference I use the cold steel code 4 as my EDC. Slim, built like a tank and sharp, willing to do what ever I throw at it. I guess I prefer the practicality of the f150 pickup over BMW weekender in the garage. Now if FF and WE come out with a larger knife, or with sexy wooden inlays, or an awesome Damascus blade, that goes in the display case :)

PigmonkeYI wanted a small knife I just didn't expect it to be bad to use in such a small knife. I have others this small that are not bad to flip or use. I just feel it was a poor design at least in my use. Also doesn't help I got a bad detent that is so stiff. Maybe once I send it in to repair that, maybe it will change my mind. The detent issue ruins it for me on this design. But will give it another go after it's fixed.

Some of you folks need a reality check.
I have an assortment of knives from many manufacturers and this one is better than the cheapest junk and is a good knife for $100-125. I prefer knives ranging in the $200+ range.
But impressive it is not.

anonomousgo look at literally anything with titanium from benchmade. Starting price of 500 dollars, and benchmade's quality control is less than stellar. MAP price increases across the board with Benchmade and Spyderco over the last few years in order to combat the new makers who are giving them serious runs for their money (or at least not astronomically overpricing everything because of the brand [lookin' at you spyderco post-2010]).
I haven't purchased anything from benchmade or spyderco in years because they keep pushing boring overpriced designs. Especially spyderco making the same exact leaf blade in 30000 different versions, each one fitting in your pocket more awkwardly than the last.
In my opinion, benchmade and spyderco especially have become nothing more than overpriced pocket jewelery producers. Back when you could get a 940 for 100ish bucks, they were a bargain...good luck finding ones under 190-200 after tax now. Most of the halo knives of either brand are just gussied up versions of production models (see, benchmade gold class) that they've already been making for years.

PigmonkeYI have a real steel megalodon 2017 in m390 that was had for 125$ on sale. That knife is impressive. Like really really impressive. For $200 it's really really impressive. It's design is a major proponent of that. Then to add roller bearings and m390 and titanium scales just tops it off.
This Falcon is not a good design. My fingers prevent the lockbar from opening at times, my detent is too far out so I cannot finger flick it. The fit in hand is fine when choked up choil otherwise it's uncomfortable. The blade shape is great tho. The handle is where it falls flat. Not to mention the loctite in mine that stripped my wiha torx. The free spinning pivot and back spacer screws. Heck even nick Shabazz gave this as a negative in the real ff made knife. Yet we knives has the capability to do it right and they don't follow through with improving. I also don't really like the chalk like feeling of the titanium texture. I could probably go on. But for the price it's not terrible at all. Just poor design in my eyes. All the small knives I have, I rather use them than this. They just work.
Anyone who wants a small knife but doesn't like this one... Try the zt 0450cf. Excellent value, excellent detent, usa made, excellent materials (even non cf version) etc.

as far as "well it had a stripped screw from the factory and they don't care to improve"
I can pick 2 spyderco's out of my collection that came with chips in the blade (yojimbo 2 CF S90V, manix 2 XL), and a benchmade with the tip unevenly ground (presidio). Both companies refused warranty service.

anonomousThe issue with the yo2 was that the blade stop was improperly ground, causing the blade to strike a barrel spacer when closed. This wasn't immediately obvious when i got the knife, and when I went for warranty they claimed I'd damaged the blade.
I ended up having to remedy it myself by filing a channel in one of the barrel spacers and sharpening the chip out myself.
As far as the presidio, it's long gone, but literally one side of the tip was completely unground. It was coated and everything, just unground. Got it returned from warranty twice saying nothing was wrong.

This is a common issue with we knives as of recently (detent issues) and replacing detents isn't easy without getting more problems as I posted a video about it somewhere in this thread. I'm really not happy about that. I don't like sending knives in like you.
Hell I have a zt 0850 which is over 300$ and it needs warranty work. It rattling when you shake it and flips out with light pressure it's very unsafe. I've asked around and no one else has these issues or they just keep them in a safe. It sucks but happens. Pretty sure they will fix it tho. The design of this knife is also not perfect at the price they are offering I'm not happy but despite the issues I have with it I still like to carry it.

anonomousI just found the correspondance from my YO2 warranty issues.
yeah, they denied me warranty service because i had disassembled the knife to find out what the problem was. This was before their policy change, but it's still absolute bullshit.

PigmonkeYThat's what I thought tbo. And that does suck. But if that's part of the warranty and you broke it... That's not their fault. Yes I agree that sucks tho. I'm glad spyderco changed that. In fact I spoke to Sal about that and got others to talk to him about it. Shortly after they changed the warranty. They no longer use red loctite and no longer deny warranty for disassembly. The problem was that more people service there knives and ran into issues because of the loctite stripping screws. Tbo they should have used high heat to remove them but how were they supposed to know.

anonomousYeah man, but this is the kind of stuff you find for 75 dollars at the spyderco factory seconds sale. Prior to that experience, I had never had any company deny me warranty for dissasembly.

JonasHeinemanI bought this knife thru another buyer on here. im having issue with the pocket clip.... it’s bending already do you have a replacement clip and screws since the one is locked in there.... looks like they used red loctie, would like a clip that address this overlooked issue? The knife itself should be still covered. This is the only thing that has disappointed me in this. If it’s not covered by warranty can I buy one?

MrBlackoutvaderAny support claims would have to be submitted through our normal process (Profile -> My Transactions -> Contact Support). If you don't have a transaction record for this bc youre no the original buyer, you will have to visit our help page and email our team. The manufacturer doesn't use anything strong as red loctite, I don't understand how that relates to the clip from your description, but regardless you will have to relate all this to the right folks and provide photos, and also TBH I'm not really sure what our policy is for warranty if you don't have a receipt. We don't have parts for sale currently, but we've had some requests for clips to be made available.

JonasHeinemanJonas, do you know if the clip for the upcoming Crux would fit the Falcon? From comparing pictures, it appears to be the same style/screw offset but a little longer, solving a couple of the most common complaints with the Falcon clip. If such is the case, MD might be able to request extra clips from the Crux run that could serve as replacements on the Falcon. Thanks!

JonasHeinemanscrew relates to this because if I plan On replacing the pocket clip I would have to remove it and I can’t budge the screw so either the cross threaded it or used something stronger then blue. It won’t come off. as for the clip.... it’s so thin in the middle that is bends with zero effort. It was in my front pocket clipped and I sat down and it bent.... poor design for a clip to be this fradgil. I know others are having the same issue as I am. This is not a new as I see in the threads here. I just figured you’d want your product the best for customers. Most knife companies honor the warranty with the knife not the original buyer

EricWilmannsThis is one of my primary concerns with this knife. I'm sure it's not a matter of, if my clip bends, but when. It already slips in and out of my jeans pocket as if there is little to no tension. Not what I wanted to see so early in its EDC life. Unfortunate, because I've really been digging this knife. No need for another safe queen, it's definitely a user.

WillWill, the clip on my falcon is beginning to lose its tension. It seems I’m having similar issues as many of the other Falcon orders. That said, are there any plans of correcting this with the Crux? If so, could I get an extra Crux clip with my order? I’d like to replace the clip on the falcon. Off topic, but does anyone own a custom FF? I bought the MD collaboration before I purchased a true FF custom... But the clip design isn’t very promising if it’s a FF design flaw. Please share your FF custom experienc.
thanks!

MassdrpprI do own a FF Septer but the clip is a different design, never lost its tension.
The Falcon on the other hand....you might snap the pocket clip if you bend it more than the thickness of your jeans.

VipeXFlat sprung titanium or steel is a way better clip material than CNC titanium. (IMO spring steel is actually the best, performance wise)

VipeXThat Septer is a beauty! Thanks for sharing! still begs the question on why Massdrop/FF isn’t planning on fixing the flaw with the Falcon/Crux! can They create a clip like the septer?

bkirby"Ignore" because it will cost them to fix. Too bad for the early adopters or guinea pigs.
