Hey everyone, based on the comments I wanted to clarify a few things about these pocket clips…
1) All members who file support tickets due to bending or breakage will be offered the new version as a replacement at no charge. They are not yet available, but we do expect they will arrive sometime in March (WE Knife, and most Chinese factories, are closed for the New Year holiday during much of February.) We've heard that some members got conflicting information from our support team, so if you feel that you should get a replacement under warranty, please do let us know by replying to the same thread, or opening a new ticket and we'll take care of you.
2) Any members who simply prefer the new clip will be offered the discount as previously described, after we have shipped all of the clips needed as replacements.
3) If you would prefer to get a replacement clip sooner, we should have about 125 original style clips available later this month.
Clips are generally recognized by knife manufacturers and consumers as “wear and tear” items. While we stand by our warranty for the Falcon and all knives, you should expect some stipulation in future drops regarding a limited time period for no-cost replacements on pocket clips only. There’s a very good reason that almost every major manufacturer offers them for sale separately, and that a whole niche industry of aftermarket clips exists.
For any questions about clip replacements, please submit a support request through your original transaction record, located in your member profile. Thanks everyone for letting us know how you feel about this and helping to drive our rapid product development cycle.
JonasHeineman@Jonas, I have a Falcon from the last drop. Great knife. As far as the pocket clip is concerned is there a new redesigned clip available or are you offering a replacement clip that is the same as the original if you have damaged the clip?
cdmYes, at no charge to anyone who files a help ticket for a bent or broken clip on Falcon or Crux, and at a discount for anyone who simply prefers to have the newer version.
Jonnyz67I've had my original clip for months with no issues whatsoever. I think if you go into it knowing not to be brutal to the clip it will be just fine. Will I get one of the new ones once available, yes sir!
JonasHeineman"2) Any members who simply prefer the new clip will be offered the discount as previously described, after we have shipped all of the clips needed as replacements."
As previously described where? Is there a price or means of requesting this yet?
Thanks
Jonnyz67Depends how you handle it. I've been carrying the prototype Falcon and Crux regularly for a lot longer than any of the ones we've sold on the site have been out in the world, and I haven't had a single issue with bending or breaking. Some people have managed to bend them in under a week (we don't often get reports of exactly how it happens). All pocket clips can bend, most often because they catch on a steering wheel or seatbelt. Your mileage may vary - if yours bends or breaks, submit a help ticket and our support team will put you on the list for a replacement.
SYFER858Sorry, High-Voltage Blue have been sold out and it was a limited edition of 400pcs so there won't be any more on this drop, or ever again. There may be other colors, even other shades of blue, but not for at least a few months.
JonasHeinemanSad to here, but shame on me not getting on this faster. But i like the Gray enough to still buy it and I'll wait to see what other colors come out.
SYFER858I've been doing a lot of research on DIY anodizing, doesn't seem too hard. Not sure if I'd be able to match the exact blue on this knife, but the blue spectrum seems to be the most common and easiest color to obtain. I just don't know if this knife is coated in any way but I am going to experiment on the clip itself to see if it's possible. Will let you know. Seems all you need is alligator clips, 9 volt batteries, distilled white vinegar and titanium wire. Not sure when I'll get around to it, but I'll let you know how it goes and will post pictures.
Dhill21Sounds good.. I'll check it out and see how your ano job goes. I was also looking in to Bladeswelove and Tisurvival they have custom ano services as low $35 but they also do custom colors, textures and patterns.
That is beautiful!! Great minds think alike. 😁👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻 Your blue came out brilliant. I ended up stopping a bit sooner in the purple zone. Meant to hit more of a Blurple, but missed. Guess I needed a few more volts.
BflyingLooks good man. I used a steel brush and some steel wool to get the surface exposed a little more and then dipped in whink rust remover. There isn't a consistent color throughout mine, some parts are more brilliant than others giving it a worn look which I like. I might try again when I have more time.
I think it looks great. Only you would notice differences in color that deep in. 🤪 But now that you have a peice under your belt, I can pretty confidently say that you will be doing it again....And more. 😇👍🏻
BluwaterdogzThe color is completely dependent on the voltage applied. Here is a titanium color chart to help estimate proper voltage. I stress the word "estimate" as there are many other variables in play. Type of Ti, surface finish, surface prep, electrolyte used, type and size of cathode, etc. Even electrolyte temperature can make a difference. But get the voltage in range, and you can usually get close to desired color.

And here is my Gent just out of the bath. It's pretty bright. But after some pocket time and handling, it's much more subtle.
Dhill21That is a good one too. Though I will say, my attempts with vinegar were lackluster and inconsistent. I've had much better results with baking soda (in distilled water), and a little laundry detergent. Just my personal experience.
Dhill21Nice. Looking forward to seeing your next project. The learning curve with anodizing can be quite quick. And it's always fun to see someone pick up a new hands-on active skill/hobby. Collecting knives is one thing, but quite passive. But learning how to effectively sharpen, or anodize, or modify, etc, develop active skills. These types of things make my passive hobby's more enjoyable.
MerriganScroll up and watch the two short videos. Both of them will show you simple anodizing in about 10 minutes.
But just for fun, here is my original setup. I didn't even submerge the parts. Just had a tiny peice of cloth in one clip, dip it in the Coke, and used a "brush" method. My first few Knives I didn't even brake down. Since the process only affects titanium, it didn't matter if anything got on the steel or carbon fiber.
MerriganIt's the voltage. The color spectrum scale pictures I posted above, show the colors possible at different voltages. It usually only takes a few seconds, even with only 0.5 amp (what I use most of the time).
The machine I'm currently using is variable up to 3 amps. But no matter what I set it at, it self regulates whatever amperage is needed to maintain the constant voltage setting. There is really no need to whack the part with high amps, as it's the voltage that creates the interaction between the electrolyte and titanium. The higher the voltage, the more crystalline growth, that occurs.....Making the different colors seen through light refraction. Or so I am told. 😬 I'm not an expert by any means. Just a guy that read a few web sites, and watched some "how to anodize - for dummies" YouTube videos. 😁 If anyone sees errors in anything I've presented, please jump in and correct.
Somewhere here I posted a link to a bladeforums thread, that documents my journey from my first ano with a few batteries and coke. To some current knives done with a power supply purchased just for anodizing. My ZT 0450 became my introductory guinea pig. And I must say, I think it came out pretty good considering I was only doing 1/4" at a time. 😎
MerriganI don't know the scientific reason. I think it has something to do with conductivity. Though I have used aluminum wire in the past. If you dip something with steel left on (like a screw or lock plate), it totally zaps the current from the water. And creates tons of gas bubbles. But I am just talking about the anode side. For the part hanger, I'm now using 16 gauge Titanium wire that I picked up for around $10. Twenty five feet I think.
On the cathode side, everyone says to use stainless steel. Though I have used aluminum foil with success also. As well as spoons and forks and such). Currently using a steel kitchen ware bowl with a plastic strainer inside to keep the parts from touching. It has been suggested many times in demo videos to make sure the cathode (my stainless bowl), has a larger surface area than the anode (Ti part). I think I remember needing a much longer dwell time for full color, when I experimented with smaller rolls of aluminum as the cathode (connected to the negative side).
JonasHeineman "Clips are generally recognized by knife manufacturers and consumers as “wear and tear” items "
while this is somewhat true, out of my collection of many manufacturers, I have never had a knife clip fail on me before this, let alone within one month of only using it handful of times. I get what you are saying here but the fact is these clips were poorly designed and not thoroughly tested before mass production.
I appreciate taking care of the replacement clips instead of making us pay $$$.
JonasHeinemanThis is an awesome knife but I'm a bit disappointed with Massdrop and Ferrum on this as I bought the knife in March fully expecting to not get the "defective" clip. However, I have the old version of the clip and if I want the updated non-defective clip I have to pay extra? Since you and the manufacturer admit that the old clip is faulty you guys should be providing the updated clips to those who purchased it after you admitted to it's defective nature for free...not cool to keep selling something you know is defective.
JonasHeinemanI'd love to get a new clip because at the moment my original clip is at about a 60degree angle in the center I've already bent it back once and I'm nervous if I bend it back again it might break.
JonasHeinemanI'm thinking about joining and am looking at the blue, I see the clip is the grey on the blue, is this how it comes or does it come with a matching blue clip?

Every time I try to file a customer support claim, I'm told you don't have my email on file. So, I try to enter it and send the message, but keep getting a msg saying "oops something went wrong".
As i navigated here now, via a daily email you sent me, I don't understand.
I got a first run Falcon collaboration, and love the knife, but I got a bad pocket clip. So, I need the improved clip, as well as a couple of extra clip screws please. The original screw heads are a bit rounded out from taking the clip off to straighten it several times.
I stole a clip that fit from another knife in my collection, so I can carry it, but in the grand scheme of things, that just really doesn't work for me.
Please advise me how to proceed.
I don't know why I keep getting g the "Oops" message, but I've tried to do as I'm told SOOO many times, I decided to try here and in the feed back forum. I know they aren't the proper channels, but something isnt clicking with my account.
I look forward to your timely reply.
Thank you
Popcorn4evahHey @Popcorn4evah sorry that you're having trouble with this, I can't really see what's happening on your end so I can't help to resolve issues like this. To get help, you click the "contact support" button under the record of the related order in the Transactions tab of your member profile - https://www.massdrop.com/transactions - and that should avoid any issues about having your email on file. Hope that helps.
Justind83I'm sorry I didn't find this information eariler today as I placed an order for one. I'm not quite sure what to expect now. There been talk about size and the clip. I'll have to see what your return policy is should want to see what the detent is about. Was this one buyer experience or have many buyers had this problem?
The price was so attractive and the maker and designer sold me as We has such a good reoutation it eas hard to pass it up. This is my first purchase with Mass drop and difficult to pass up although I have so many knives of this size and materials.
I'll be patiently waiting it's arrival .
Thanks, Ed.
