If you are coming to this drop toward the end, maybe this will be useful to you… As a full disclosure, I was provided one pair of these socks up front for free to try out and give some honest feedback on what these socks are good for and not so good at. (At least for me.) Given that I didn’t have much time for trying them out to determine longevity, I asked my wife if she would throw them in with all of the loads to be sure they made it into the wash just about every other day. 8 washes and 8 full-day uses later, they still have the new sock feel. Something worth noting, I am a bit of a shoe nut. I am lucky enough to have a job where they don’t care so much about what I wear on my feet as long as it’s not flip flops. For the time of this tests I wore everything from running shoes to some 8-inch Chippewa boots with these socks and I have formed some pretty strong opinions.
First things first… My feet sweat… Like a lot. It’s gotten a bit better over the years with the help of Drysol (Rx) but picking a sock that can manage moisture and breathe is really important to me. My running shoes breathe well, some of my full-grain leather boots do not, and I needed to see how these socks managed each situation. First things first, fit and feel: I wear a US11E and sometimes, it’s a EE if the brand runs narrow. I was provided with an XL pair to try out. The XL seemed like a perfect fit for length and width of my foot. I don’t usually wear a crew height sock with my running shoes so it was a bit different in that regard but not unpleasant. The fabric is on the thinner side, not to say it’s low quality, but it’s not designed to cushion. This made the running shoes feel great, same with the sneakers, and even the Doc Martens. However, I do prefer to use a thicker sock when using any boots that rise above my ankle and that is where I found the only discomfort with the socks. If you have any sensitivity to the top of your boot on your shin, don’t expect these socks to pad that area from rubbing through the day.
Look: The socks aren’t particularly flashy in any way, dull colors are not a bad thing as they tend to blend in to anything you might be wearing. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I dress up like a clown, but sometimes I like to have a sharp pop of vibrant color and socks are usually my way of doing that. Bottom line, wearing these socks won’t be a fashion statement… I’m betting you won’t have people noticing them unless you point them out.
Moisture: This is where I found these socks to sell themselves. When in well-vented shoes, my feet stayed very comfortable.. The socks didn’t trap in the heat or sweat.. I really like them.. As for the science behind it, sure… I’ll believe it can be due to the thinner top allowing the moisture to escape/evaporate away.. It seems to fit the experience I have had so far.
Smell management: If you are a person who has feet that sweat a lot… you need a boot dryer. (It works with shoes too…) The socks can only pull moisture away from your feet, the shoes/boots cannot evacuate all moisture on their own. Every night I have to place the boots on a dryer to make sure they don’t just sit there filled with sweat. If I didn’t dry them out, eventually they would start to smell… and cleaning them out once that sinks in.. not an easy task. The socks themselves dry off very quickly after I kick off the footwear at home and I haven’t noticed them holding on to any odor. Keep in mind, my clothes don’t lay in a hamper for a week before washing either… so I can’t say if they would smell if you do that.
Overall I love these socks. At this price, how can you say no? I signed up for this drop and looking forward to receiving more of them. I’d be happy to answer any questions if you have them.
