I was really looking forward to trying out these socks. That...the anticipation...was the best part of these socks, unfortunately. I bought two three-packs, one in large, one in extra large so I'd have some for myself to try and to hand out to my son and friends to try. My feet are "in-betweeners": they measure as a size 10 shoe, but size 11 shoes always fit best. Both the large and extra large socks were tight. The extra large were wearable as they didn't make my toes feel like they were constantly being curled under. After over 25 miles (three different hikes, the longest being 11miles), The socks still look new, but my feet sure don't. I didn't have as bad a problem with the lack of wicking that TToJ had, but my feet were definitely wet with sweat...in a very ventilated shoe. I can live with that, but what I can't live with are the toe seams. They're round, not flat, and I could feel them across my toes on the very first hike with them. I went through all six pair only to find the same thing with all of them. To make this a shorter story, I'll just say that, as walking around town socks (under three miles), they're OK. Beyond that, well, momma told me that if I...

KitCarson61Thanks for the review, and I'm sorry the toe seams rubbed you the wrong way. Perhaps moving up in size would relieve that? I wear size 12 didn't and didn't notice it with the XL, but everybody has different feet and fit.
There are thinner/light socks out there, so maybe these are too warm/thick for your needs? How do they compare in thickness to your regular hiking socks?

DannyMilksHey Danny, Ya, not every sock fits every foot. That's why we keep trying, right? I tried on the Large which were supposed to fit my size 10 (11?) feet, but they curled my toes. The XLs fit and felt better, but rubbed at the toe seam. It's just my funky feet, I'm sure, since I'm not hearing others noticing that seam. As for my usual socks, I became a merino wool convert back around the turn of the century (I love being able to say that..."turn of the century") when I found that, even in the summer, the Wigwam Heavy Hikers kept my feet comfortable in my big leather hiking boots all day long. Since the demise of the Heavy Hikers and my need for going lighter I've been paring down on the weight everywhere. Now, depending on the weather, I wear either the Darn Tough Hiker Boot Cushion or (my favorite) the Farm to Feet Balston Spa Crew socks. If you look through my Massdrop transactions, you'll see a pattern of trying out different merino wool based socks. The Balston Spas fit well, feel great, wear well...in short, they're as close to perfect as I've found and, for what it's worth, I probably wouldn't have found them had it not have been for Massdrop, so thank you very much for that. The Darn Tough Hiker Boot Cushions fit and feel just about as good and add the extra warmth and cushioning for colder weather or heavier shoes. As for the new Massdrop/Fitsox collaboration, I'm sure a lot of people are going to get just exactly what they need with these socks. Wish it were me, too, but, for now, I'll stick to my Farm to Feet and Darn Toughs. Thanks for all you're doing to bring quality products at reasonable prices.

DannyMilksHey Danny, Found a box on my front porch today with a couple pair of XXL socks and your note. Thanks for the thought and giving me a chance to try out the larger size. I'll be in a pair of them this weekend for a dozen or so miles and will let you know how it goes. Only three more weeks until the Tough Mudder in Sacramento (they moved it from Northstar due to the snow levels), so I'll be needing to settle on the right socks soon. Thanks again.

DannyMilksSo, here's a 30 mile update: The XXL size definitely feels like a better fit for my messed up feet and don't curl my toes like the others, but I do still feel that toe seam. It's no where near as bothersome and I can wear these for a while before they start to rub enough to cause discomfort. The first and second hikes of about 12 miles each showed me that anything over about 9 miles would be my limit with these socks. Thanks for the XXLs to try, though. Looks like I'm still a Farm to Feet Balston Spa crew guy.

DannyMilksOne last update on the Fitsok... I gave a pair of the large and a pair of the XL socks to my backpacking partner and he absolutely loves them. He wears a size 13 shoe, but both the L and XL fit him just fine. Not only does he love the socks, but he also likes flipping the cuff down and showing off the upside-down "MASSDROP" woven into them. He claims they're as comfortable for him as the Farm to Feet Balston Spa crew socks.
