Im pretty disappointed in these socks. Socks don't have much to them, but they shrank in he washer to the point where they almost don't fit. There's not much padding and the fabric is pretty scratchy. Took them to Europe to walk around all day and my feet were pretty destroyed by the end. For the price I expected more.
AlexduhgreatSo are these more like liner socks, with no padding?
Scratchy fabric meaning it made your foot itch, or is it like..when u look at the sock, you can see random fibers sticking out?
im surprised they shrank a lot.
pullup188They're like any normal sock you could buy at old navy, but the material feels like it has more plastic in the fiber (just a bit) i mean that's not to say they aren't comfortable but no more than any sock half its price. Although so far ware and tear are not present I would recommend getting something else for the price or the very least get a size bigger than you think
AlexduhgreatAlex - this is the first report of socks shrinking in the washer and I'm a bit confused as to how that happened. At the hottest setting, washing machines probably gets up to 130 degrees F. Did you try them on before you put them in the washer? If the socks were put in the dryer on high heat, maybe that would cause shrinking and damage the fibers, causing them to feel scratchy. These socks are thicker around the heel and toes, but you're not satisfied with the amount of cushioning?
pullup188These are definitely not liners. The heel and toe fabric is thicker, so much so that I would still wear thinner socks for hiking and running on the hottest days where I live (California). However, they are a bit thinner then the Darn Tough 1/4 Hiker socks.
DannyMilksI did try them on before washing and they fit fine. It seems like they did shrink in the dryer because they are warped unlike how I had received them. the material isnt super scratchy but feels more like rough and less smooth which I just prefer. The shrinkage is what really wrecked me I walked around Amsterdam in them expecting some coverage and they were acting like typical socks. So far I haven't seen much damage but can provide pictures comparing them to my feet which are size 12 and I purchased a large.
AlexduhgreatSupposedly, merino wool doesn't shrink. Therefore, you should be able to stretch them back to size. In addition, when washing them it is best to use a single water temperature. If I am not mistaking, changing water temperature from hot-to-cold or cold-to-hot can cause shrinking issues.
I'm also considering this purchase, so I'd love to hear your feedback after stretching them back to shape.
W8lkinUSAThey've stretched back to normal although still a little small so I would still suggest if you're on the fence with size to get one higher. Theyre relatively comfortable, I have more of a problem the price vs what you get. Nike outlet socks seem to be around same quality.
