Mines are already dead (pilling like crazy, looking too bad to be worm).

DetexNothing fancy, standard US washing machine, cold, regular or delicate program.
Then dryer on delicate setting.

beerinperilPilling is fairly common with socks and with merino products, and almost always present in merino socks due to the high abrasion. It's typically a superficial thing. It happens after the first few uses, but doesn't mean the fabric is falling apart of that the sock is not useful. Do you think your pilling is more than superficial?
