Almost ready for getting clear. But see jude's episode, I hesitated a while. After looking the specs, I probably still go with clear since it is easier to drive, less weight, more accessories and more refined sounding than elex, another thing is I prefer clear's look better than elex.

liujun050612For what it's worth, the Elex and the Clear both weight exactly 450g. Clear is easier to dive at 55 ohm vs 80 for Elex. I guess it's up to you if the sound difference and color are worth $700 to you.

rhenomHeard both elear and clear and I prefer clear. It's unfortuate that elex share the same driver to elear. If elex's mids is close to clear then I will consider this one. I will wait until tyll's clear review for final decision. For now, I probably go for clear.

liujun050612Well if you watch the head-fi youtube video, the drop description, and the pinned post on this discussion, you will see that the sound signature on the Elex is more like the Focal Clear than the Elear.

rhenomTrue. Yes. It is close. But jude's said clear still wins elex in term of sound. For now, I can't say anything about the elex. I have to wait tyll and other ones review. Besides similar graph, I do love clear's look and accessories. Looks like this is a simple version of clear. The question is the look, accessories and sound worth extra $700. Another hard decision.

liujun050612The Clear and The Elex are both equally easy to drive: they both have 104db@ 1mw@1khz. Impedance doesnt matter as much. While amps generally arent able to make as much power at higher impedance, low impedance headphones often need more amperage than higher impedance headphones. So there are disadvantages to both situations. And many amps have a significant lack of amperage capability and instead focus on their voltage swing to deliver high mw numbers. Either way, 55ohm vs 80ohm is hardly any difference, and not something that will be a limiting factor, and both are equally as sensitive.
