I was literally about to go pick up an Aeon Flow Open at AudioVision SF (near MassDrop) when I came across the youtube reviews of the Elex. I was like, 'what the...' I did audition the Elear and Aeon (both close and open) there and came away liking the Aeon more for that liquid smooth planar sound, but the fact that this may sound better than the Elear and the price was right mean I will delay the Aeon purchase for another day. I look forward to this supposed baby Utopia. From everything I've heard or read, the Utopia is the next best thing since the Stax, so I'm hyped about this baby Utopia.
Massdrop, you're developing one heck of a lineup. Now get on that Focal Utopix and Stax SR-X! If any of you bought the HD 6xx and wonder if this is an improvement, just stop reading and never visit a high end audio store, and absolutely never go to one of the Head-Fi meetups. What you don't know won't hurt your pocketbook. I got rid of my HD 650 a few months ago because it didn't cut it anymore. Once you've bitten the apple, you can't look at Sennheiser as some holy grail anymore. It's more like mid-level.

caliphoniaWhoa, sounds interesting! I just received my 6xx and am enjoying the heck out of them, so hearing that these make the sennheiser sound me makes me excited for the future of the audiophile path I have left to tread!

chuckolatteEveryone ears and preferences are different. I had the HD650 for a few years and then picked up the Massdrop TH-X00 and an Andromeda and never could touch the HD650 again. It's kinda boring and has no bass. Yes, it's clear and detailed, but like most Sennheiser, it's clinically boring. There's a reason why Sennheiser is trying to go electrostatic now. They've reached THEIR current limit with dynamic drivers and all these other headphone makers are producing funner headphones with other driver types. That's not to say dynamic drivers have reached a limit. We can simply look at Focal. They seem to have a lot more skills with dynamic drivers than Sennheiser. Btw, I didn't say these makes the Sennheiser sound. I've audition the Elear and it's a lot more engaging then anything the Sennheiser has. The closes I've heard to the Sennheiser sound is the Andromeda, except the Andromeda adds awesome bass and a lot more fun. I'm not sure why Sennheiser can't figure out how to do bass and fun.
