Hey everyone.
I had a change this weekend to listen to the Focal Elear and Focal utopia. This week I also just received my micro iDSD Black Label and my Audeze LCD-2C headphones. So I figured before my ears got too burned in with the Audeze sounds to do some comparisons. I also was able to hook up the Focal Utopias to a 3,000 dollar network connected moon DACrunning to a 3,000 dollar amp.
I must say the Focal Utopia were my least favorite. The Focal Elear struck a nice balance that I really liked. With headphones, I am a detail whore which Focal does a lot of. However, even for me, the Utopia were just way too much. There were pretty much unlistenable for many genres on my iDSD BL and the expensive DAC/Amp set up. I felt like the sound stage was too tight and everything was way too in your face.
Just my quick thoughts above. I think if I spent more time with the Elear, I might prefer them over the Audeze. If the Elex has less bass, like the graphs show, I am not sure I would like them as much. The current discounted price for the Audeze is killer. Elears can be found for about the same. However, the build quality of the Elears and how creaky they are is very off putting.
