What's the build quality on these like? I got burned by Focal on another pair of headphones I bought from them that were just utter garbage. I know they make excellent speakers and I gave them the benefit of the doubt because of their speakers the I was not at all happy with their Spirit Ones... So when it came time buy a new pair I went with Audeze LCD 2s. How do these compare to either pair? In terms of sounds and build quality. They should obviously sound better than the Spirit Ones...

Ashapiro75Focal spirit one is one of their lower tier headphones, i mean considering the cost different between them and the audeze lcd 2 i'm surprised you're even comparing them. i haven't heard the elex but, i preferred my hd650s over the audeze lcd2, and many people who reviewed the elex said they preferred it by a large margin over the hd650, saying things like smoother response, better bass quality, better sound stage and imaging, a blacker background, now if that isn't incentive enough, Inner-fidelity votes the focal clears as the best open headphones, then you look at the frequencies response charts and you'll see the elex and the clear are very close sounding. Sure the clear might have slightly better resolution and refinement, but this is about as close as you could get to the $1500 dollar pair of headphones and its only $699, another thing I'll add is Focal's driver design for the elear/clear/utopia is very different from everything else on the market.

alvargWell keep in mind, I wasn't talking about sound quality, just build quality. I've owned 10-12 different pairs of headphones and for the price of the spirit ones, their build quality was crap and those headphones were plagued with problems and Focal's support on them was terrible. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth about focal in terms of headphones. I had a pair of $99 AKG's that were built way better than the spirit ones were. No point in having great sounding headphones that fall apart after a few months of use.
