Question: are these worth it? The price is a fair bit more than I've ever spent on a set of headphones, but I'm happy so far with the value and performance of the Hifiman HE4xx so far. In fact, I'm very satisfied with everything I've gotten from Massdrop in the past. The Focal Clear has gotten really good reviews, and all of the other Focal headphones (Utopia, Clear, Elear) make the price here actually seem reasonable in comparison if the performance and build quality are comparable

DaveinSMIf you have a complementary quality source/dac/amp, simply yes. The Elex is perhaps the best deal MD has thus far collaborated on...
Stevie Wonder, Innervisions 24/96 (upsampled 5.6), listened to it last night with the Elex's, kind'a like perfect... hearing the songs anew... I will be experiencing Stevie in Vegas soon, hope he does some of these and from Talking Book.

"Stevie was apparently quite taken by the idea that this was a keyboard instrument that he could possibly play that made all of these sounds," Malcolm told the BBC in a 2010 interview. "He was tired of having to play his songs to an arranger who would then go away and write the arrangement, record the track with the band, call Stevie in after it was recorded, tell him where he had to sing, what he had to sing, and then send him away again while they did the mix. And Stevie said it sounded nothing like what the song sounded like in his head." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuaSzFf7yq0
"Starting with 1972's Music of My Mind, the run of albums that would also include Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness' First Finale is still lauded as one of the era's greatest artistic statements. However, the most undersold part of Stevie's legacy may be the collaboration with two producers, Robert Margouleff and Malcolm Cecil, and the pair's massive synthesizer, TONTO (The Original New Timbral Orchestra)."" https://reverb.com/news/stevie-wonder-and-tonto-the-synth-orchestra-and-production-duo-behind-his-pivotal-albums

rastusThis was very interesting, thanks for sharing the links. I haven't heard Stevie live in years but when I did at a Blues and Jazz fest in Chicago, he was magnificent. A true showman. Got to see a lot of other greats as well but Buddy Guy was hands down my favorite. Even when singing a capella or just sharing a spoken-word story, he was incredibly entertaining. For a man his age, his voice is still close to perfect.
