There has been a lot said about these already but I joined the last drop on these and have had some opportunity to spend some time with them and I think they are terrific value for the money and they certainly reflect the intention of the original plan, which was to offer a spiritual successsor to the Denon D5000s. In order to calibrate expectations, let me share a little about the headphones I am familiar with. First and foremost, I have owned the Denon D5000s since 2007, and have spent an enormous amount of time with them. My example has been recabled and re-padded when the original cable wore out and the original pads disintegrated and is sounding better than ever, but these best it in all relevant respects - they are more refined, they have a more neutral presentation and they are more accurate, but the overall presentation is very similar. The mid-range is materially better and while the bass is there in both quantity and quality, they have a reasonably balanced presentation and they represent good value for money at their price point. I doubt that they will disappoint across the full genre of music and I can't really think of a closed back alternative at this price point that would be better - different perhaps, but better? No. They are good music makers and that is really what it is all about. What other headphones do I own and what have I paired these with? I own Grado GS1000i, Audeze LCD-X, Oppo PM3, Noble Kaiser 10 and Shure KSE 1500s and I have paired these with a Chord Hugo, a Chord Mojo and a Woo Audio WM6-SE connected to a Naim DAC and Well Tempered Amadeus GT turntable with a Dynavector XXII cartridge, so they have certainly been given a chance to shine, and I can compare them to some truly first rate headphones. They make listening to music a rewarding experience and they certainly don't make me want to show them only the best recorded music I have. They flatter across the spectrum. Are they competitive with the Audeze LCD-XC? No of course not, but they are less than a third the price. And they do an enormous amount right. I will be moving on my Denons which is not something which I though I would say previously, and that in itself is probably a good reflection of how I feel about these. For those who might be wondering - the Shures are in a league of their own :)

gordon_youlEarlier I used to have D5000 and joined the drop for PH. Somehow I was disappointed with them. Did not like the sound or soundstage. Currently I have EL-8 closed and LCD - 2. These really sound as good as the D5000?

gordon_youlAnd now I want these even more. Hopefully I'll be able to swing them by next drop. (you've got a great collection, by the way!)

gordon_youlI'm curious why you would buy the TH-X00 when you already have great headphones?
