FWIW I bought the PH last year and within a week or two, even after being super careful and keeping them in the bubble wrap they were shipped in, the jack adapter put a nasty chip in the beautiful finish. These adapters ought to come with soft gel coating or something. I think I will dip it in plasti-dip to prevent future chips. Of course I will be carefull not to get the stuff inside the jack. Thats about all I got.

homthtrnutSo given your experience (as well as several other accounts I found online), the gloss finish on the TH-X00 series is basically crud? I wasn't expecting drool-worthy urushi like on the TH-900, but this is kinda disappointing all the same. I'll either strip the finish off and re-coat it myself with something hardier, or just leave it raw. I suppose touching up on the scratches and just adding another layer of protective material is another option.
Love how the EBs sound though.

Lyer24Well, the finish is beautiful but not very resistant to chipping. I handle them with kid gloves every time but apparently the one time that the adapter touches the can, it chips! I should have taken precautions right from the git go cause I always dreaded that thing hitting the wood. Its knurled sharp edge is like shark teeth to the finish apparently. I WILL be dipping it into some of that tool dipping stuff right away to prevent this from happening again for sure! It would be nice if manufacturers would do this ahead of time though. Like the soft rubber on a shaver handle. That would be nice.

homthtrnutYeah, and the adapter certainly isn't the most secure I've used. Having said that, I do plan on having mine recabled for trans-portable use either way, and maybe keeping the super chunky firehose cable around for home use. The adapter, I plan to keep; whether or not it'll see much use after the recabling remains to be seen.
And yeah, might be worth investing in a small tube of lacquer, just to keep it looking decent. I hear nail polish works too.
