I almost sold these. I had them paired with a Jotunheim w/dac. I did some mods and changed amps and now I am totally happy. Biggest change is with drums. They sound way more real than anything I have heard before. These mods really tightened the bass and made it more dynamic.
1. New amp: xDuoo XD-05. This alone made me not sell the Ebonies. 2. Brainwavz pleather angle pads: I tried my zmf angle pads but i feel like the smaller opening of the Brainwavz keep the treble more balanced without the peaks. 3. Lawton tune-up: Now here is where the sound gets a little cleaner and the bass tightens just enough. I opted to not put the foam inside the cup. The reasoning is that the earpads I chose did not increase treble peaks. If I went with Lawton pads or my ZMF pads, I might opt to use the foam. 4. Foam rotation mod: Lawton mod made things a little recessed. I chose position "3/ #2" to open them up and it really worked. I tried this mod before and it barely made a difference in the sound. After the Lawton mod, this mod was definitely noticeable.
Here is the link to all the things above. Note: there is a cheaper alternative to the Lawton Tune-up which is in the Foam Rotation link. I have not tried it personally.

WildChinoiseI have the XD-05 also. Though it blue screens often. When it works it's pretty good.
