Okay so I have done a fair bit of research and I still have a fairly broad question. I currently have the AKG K7xx which I love for a lot of music (classic rock/jazz/classical) and they are great for FPS or other HUGE sound stage games. What I really want now is something that will go along with EDM(techno and other heavy genres especially)/Hip Hop/Rap my AKGs have OKAY bass but nothing really good enough for a great techno track to shine with. From what I could find between the E-MU and TH-X00 is that the TH-X00 with the Ebony Cups is really great for those genres. I really like the E-MU set up with the Ebony also but I am wondering what other peoples opinions for this situation are.

ZekerishI own the K7XX as well as the Fostex TH610 (very close to the TH-X00). The K7XX low end is actually no joke, and they are very punchy for open air headphones. You will have more bass definition with the closed air Fostex but at the same time I wouldnt expect to get blown away by the low end with EDM and other genres. I listen to very similar music as you by the looks of it, and in my experience the Fostex just have far more depth and clarity in the low end, not necessarily power or volume. You most definitely will not regret purchasing the Fostex headphones as they sound amazing and imo they compliment the K7XX well with their differences.
ZekerishI find that the K7xx tonal signature is quite neutral. I also listen to a wide range of music, including techno. I wonder if what you're looking for is a darker and more mid-base heavy sonic signature, which you generally won't find on higher-end cans, as good cans usually aim for sonic neutrality (more like your K7xx; though of course there are exceptions). As others have noted, you may want to move to a closed headphone, though you do have good open air options as well. For example, I sometimes swap my K7'x for my Sennheisser HD598s. The 598s get a bad rap (no pun intended!) but in fact they are quite lovely - a darker, deeper and bassier tonal signature than the K7's. They are wonderful for techno, trance, at least some trip hop, most hip hop, etc. The problem with the 598s is that they are a bit flabby on the very lowest octaves, which bugs the heck out of me and makes me swap them back for a different set of cans when I hit that condition (NOTE: techno, though bass forward, almost never uses exceptionally deep tones, and so the 598s are excellent for the vast majority of techno). Here's another option: my buddy has a pair of fidelio X2s, and while I haven't spent more than a couple hours with them, they have a darker, bassier tonal balance than the K7's, maintain the lovely airiness that only open headphones can, yet the lowest octaves are pretty darn tight. Perfect for techno, rap, etc. You might give them a listen, if you get the chance.

Zekerishf you are going to spend 200 dollars on headphones get the Monoprice Monolith M560 planar headphones they are just as good as Hifimans 400 dollar stuff. Its a great overall headphone built out of steel no plastic crap and sound great in just about everything and they are easy to drive. Here is a review of them the video isnt working follow the link.

awi5951Oh man, having owned the M560 I would disagree. Do you own the M560s?
All the HiFiMan headphones I've owned where much better (HE-400, HE-400i, HE-500 even the HE-350 I'd prefer over the M560). The M560 are only one of two pair of headphones I've ever ended up returning before my two week window was up.
Bass was lacking, and the vocals nice but harsh. Clamp was also too light and they would fall off too easily you lean forward or back more than a little.

RojasTKDMY bass is great in mine what did you drive them with? I just have a 02 Dac/amp and a Micca origen + and the bass was great off both those cheap amp/dac combos. Did you play them with the caps on i heard that can make them sound bad but i used mine always open and they sound great. Well i like them better than my fostex mark 3's, My sennheiser 598s My Akg K712pros, And the Mx 50s i had.
Zreviews has a sound test up on his channel as well people can judge for themselves.

awi5951They where driven off my Audio-GD NFB-11 so that wasn't the problem. I'd I listend to them both open and closed.
I've had or still have all those headphone you mentioned and liked them all better. Even the M50X which I wasn't of fan of and they are the other headphone I sent back.
I saw two video reviews that where positive, Z and DMS3, but after getting them I was very disappointed. I them checked the forums and found many other felt the same (wish I check sooner).
I know different people have different taste, but I find it hard to believe people like what I heard. Others have mentioned lean bass too. So either we have vastly different taste and ideas of what bass is or there is a consistency problem with the M560.
I don't know what to say. I just wanted to give a different perspective as my experience was different.
I don't found the sound comparisons useful because I'm listening the output of the headphone Z is sampling through my headphones, so it going to sound like what my headphone make his headphones sound.
I may one day order a new pare and see they are better than my first pair. Not that I really need anymore headphone.

awi5951No I'm saying the M50x aren't very good, but I'd keep them before the M560.
That's my experience.

awi5951M50s arent that bad mate.... They are awesome headphones for certain uses, especially the fact that they are portable. They are more durable than my other higher end headphones and make a great can to take on the road or throw around. Sound quality isnt bad, they just have a poor sound signature for "neutral audiophile listening".

NJbonelessThey felt far too plastic to me especially on those thin plastic hinges feels they will break easy. The HD 558 has some issues as well with the plastic but the M50 felt to fragile to me those plastic hinges are worrisome.
