At what I understand will be the price point for these, I sadly agree with others- no detachable cables at this price is not okay. Saying that Fostex only builds changeable cables into even higher priced headphones is kind of a slam to customers who want to try & love this product. Spending this much money on nicer headphones without being able to change or upgrade cables is a little ridiculous. A changeable cable 'assembly' honestly isn't that complicated nor expensive. It doesn't seem customer friendly to respond to this concern by saying you expect to sell ~ 1000 of these in the next few weeks anyway. It will be interesting to see how many are sold with what seems like less than sensitive feedback to customer concerns.

Newyorker4lifeDefinitely MD should add detachable cables as it is common to have balanced cables for other high end headphones - Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, etc. Is MD seriously unaware of what fuel headfiers' passion? also MD should come up with MD cables selection for THX00 owners after this. You will sell truckloads of balanced cables as you have the headphones.

Newyorker4lifeHe was being honest. It's not up to him. Fostex doesn't want to sell the $400-$500 /non-flagship headphones with detachable cables. He's with massdrop, not fostex. I didn't sense him being customer unfriendly at all. He's been very helpful. If you want detachable cables then Fostex wants you to buy their brand new TH-610. That's just how it is. I'm happy to have a better version of the TH-600 for only $400-$500 at the expense of detachable cables which you can mod and people have modded already.

Newyorker4lifeWhile I agree with the desire for detachable cables, I really don't think it's possible. I don't think Massdrop's comment was intended to be disingenuous. Even on their official site, they have literally ONE product (TH900MK2) that has the detachable cables. In addition, it appears to be some sort of proprietary connector anyway. These are essentially a group buy, made-to-order product. Fostex is most likely keeping the detachable cables for their core product and distribution channels.

Newyorker4lifeHi Newyorker4life,
I meant to keep things light, but you're right, the tone was overreaching. These products are only possible because of everything the community does and a straightforward response would have been more appropriate.
We want people to voice their opinions around the product and if we poke fun at a suggestion, even if we've heard it before, it hurts the feedback loop that makes these products possible.

SoundprankI can see your points. Fostex can continue with what they are doing but the competition for 300-500 range is heating up for wood cup closed cans. Look at the Meze Classic 99 as an example with detachable cables. I am not buying yet another fixed cable closed headphones (Beyer T5P being my last). I will skip this Ebony if there is no chance of detachable cables.

CEE_TEEHi Cee_Tee, thank you for walking back your comments and tone. Many of us are active in multiple online audiophile forum communities. I personally posted at least a dozen optimistic and enthusiastic comments in other forums re: recent Racoon 300SG drop, which I joined. At least half a dozen folks who joined the Racoon drop did so after reading some of my posts. None of us could find a lower price on that one, which is very cool. Looking forward to it. The other folks who responded to my post(s) PM'd me, thanking me for letting them know it was was available. I'm confident you've seen how many comments are being received here about the lack of detachable cables, and the competition in the $400-$500 price range. These are gorgeous looking, but I think enthusiasm has peaked for cans at this price point with proprietary cables that can't be upgraded. There are so many other choices, and other wood cans for much lower prices, with detachable cables. Wish it were different - would have loved to give these or the purple hearts a try, but the cables are just a complete no -go.
