These do look great and I'm sure they will sound great.. but in this day and age to have a $500 head phone without being able to easily change out the cables for balanced??? Come on now... what are you guys thinking...

dixterHey dixter, mostly we're thinking that we'll sell ~1000 of these in the next couple of weeks. ;)
Facetious comments aside, don't worry, we know everyone wants removable cables. And, we'd do it if we could! As it is, Fostex wants to reserve their new removable cable housing for more expensive things in the line-up. (Every partner is cool with doing different things, please know that we're listening to requests like yours and passing on those requests.)

CEE_TEEConsidering that even the $99 Massdrop Hifiman HE-350's have removable cables, I don't see the justification. Also, the request for removable cables has been well voiced in comments since the first iteration of these headphones. So, if Massdrop offers custom items at the request and behest of the community, how is it then that an important feature like this is not an option at all? Pretty interesting point of discussion, if you ask me.

xZEROZxGood point. The fostex T50RP mk3 have detachable cables for less than half of the TH-X00. The TH900 MK2 have detachable and as a TOTL headphone is probably a better buy than three of the X00 with different wood cups.

xZEROZxWell Fostex still has to differentiate their own branded items from the oem ones right? Looking at the amount of TH-X00s sold, I'd be damned if they can move their own headphones if these came with removable cables.

SupabaIt looks like TH900 MK2 is triple the price of the th-x00 ....so I'd hope it's a better buy than three x000.

SupabaYes it is less then half the price, but even the mk3s need a good amount of modding to get sounding amazing, and bass drops off a cliff at 50hrtz on my heavily modded mk2s. But retain a beautiful flat response through out. The factory detachable cable is awful. Mostly just the socket they use, crackles and cuts, and even goes quiet in a channel for no reason, so most rewire anyways.

SeEnCreaTiveDude, the point is about detachable, not about modding. Fostex has the capability to make affordable T50MK3 and TOTL TH900Mk2 headphones with detachable cables, so why not the X00's. Personally I dislike having to mod headphones especially non-reversible mod. Some people mod their X00's to detachable. Every manufacturer will love that - void your warranty.

Newyorker4lifeComing from Fostex, it will be strange that the flagship 900mk2 doesn't outdo any of the x00 out of the box. an analogy I can think of is that the Sennheisser HD800S is a better buy than owning the HD700, HD650 and HD600. Having many of the midfi cans is a mistake people make sometime, the sum of these mid fi cans will not be greater audio quality than one HD800S.

Supabahi , is all about matter of personal taste , i'm using both headphones HD700 and HD800s but i much prefer my good old trusted hd700 over hd800s , becouse with right setup and after using couple 100 hours sound much more better than first day , of course hd800s is amazing headphones no doubt about it but this theory may not work on many people at least not for me

SupabaSupaba - voiding the warranty is another concern glad you articulated that. Spending $500+ on cans + $xxx to "mod" and then subtract value having no warranty, for me, is a no go. I auditioned several hp's recently. So far I am loving my refurb Oppo PM3s for $319. Full manufacturers two year warranty. Single detachable / replaceable / upgradable cable. Tried but returned Sine+ Cipher, also returned dragonfly red + CCK. Did my first drop on the Racoon tube amp shipping end of July. It's so easy to get caught up in the frenzy....but the PM3s are so incredibly better than silly Apple ear buds. PM3s so comfortable. Also kept a pair of $38 groupon'd Sol Republic Tracks Air BT wireless that are actually pretty darn good as well with full warranty. Also kept pair of brand new Bose soundsport wireless IEMs - for gym. Point being - I now have 3 pairs of hp's I'm enjoying in the different listening environments that are for my different needs, all three pairs, with warranty, for less money than the x00. Would the x00 sound super duper better than PM3s, don't know. I really really wanted to try the x00 but I'm glad I auditioned the others and made some decisions with products that were returnable. I really hope massdrop and Fostex consider the cable issue in the future.

SupabaThen I will direct you to the part of the comment saying unfortunately the stock socket is awful. I didn't rewire mine for fun, it's very common for most RPs to have bad connections. But yes I agree, they should have added a removable cable on the x00s, for sure

xZEROZxThe true problem is with us as consumers. Which is to say that we continue to buy the th-xoo series of headphones. we should have boycotted the second drop until such a time as Fostex made a detachable cable the norm.

CEE_TEEThat's not really a valid argument though. Fostex sells the TH50RP with a. Detachable cable and that's a $100 headphone. You can claim it's fostex all you want, but "reserved for more expensive things" is just not true.

Amnesia1187He's pretty clearly stating that Fostex is just opting to include detachable only on their highest ticketed items. That doesn't mean that CT is justifying it.
