one more questions, with the size and cable (and somewhat sound leakage) , is th-x00 good for portable use.
Some subway rides and listening outside and such.
RyanHGlad you tried the others - as did I (not blindly recommending) you might want to read back in the thread about portability. A hard case you'd want to buy separately. Take note of the weight of these headphones as well - relatively heavy. My understanding is these are not the best choice for commuting on subway (sound leakage).
RyanHI don't want to throw a monkey wrench in to the fly oil, but what about the Hifiman Edition S ? I was in a similar position. I wanted a headphone that was over ear, versatile, portable, sounds good, comfortable, and wouldn't break the bank. Long story short, I was looking at the Sine, the Meze 99, and by accident found the Edition S. It is not an ortho, like most Hifiman headphones, but it looks like it has a lot of promise. Maybe give it a listen at your local store?

RyanHTo be honest, with Sine, you will need a bit more time with it to appreciate it. I was also unimpressed when listening to my friend Sine in the beginning, but ended up very impressed when I secure my own pair. But yeah, on-ear is not comfortable and Sine did hurt my ear after a while.
As for your question for TH-X00, size is quite big and relatively heavy, but earpads is quite plushy and comfortable. The cable is very thick and long, you will need to cut it to shorter length and also re-terminate it from 6.3mm to 3.5mm for portable use. It doesn't leak much sound, but it also isolate very poorly. To be honest, I don't think you can really use it outside as portable. It doesn't fold flat either, so for example, you can't rest the headphone flat in your neck.
VerdeThe Edition S looks very cool except for being "on ear." That was my problem with Sine. I loved Sine sound quality, but on-ear starts to get uncomfortable. Especially for someone who wears glasses (I do). If Audeze rolls out an "over ear" Sine I'd pre-order the moment it was available. Massdrop - collaborate with Audeze for an over ear Sine with same inline integrated DAC (and it already has detachable cables)! This would be a home run.
Newyorker4lifeI hear ya. I hate on ear cans. Many people are saying that it is strange that the Edition S is listed as on ear, and it should be advertised as otherwise. The inside of the ear cup pad "ranges from 53mm to 62mm (contoured to the shape of the human ear) and the width is 42mm" (Goodyfresh Head Fi). I don't have big ears. I think these would qualify for over ears for me. As always, your ear milage may vary.
aman1420Yes, I appreciate you clarifying but the EL-8 seems to have some polarized reviews - many, or the majority of customer feedback seems to suggest / feel Audeze got it quite wrong with the EL-8.
Newyorker4lifeAh, that's a shame. I was actually a bit interested in them myself before I went with an older Hifiman model to fill the planar gap in my setup. Ah well..
aman1420I was disappointed when I read the EL-8 reviews myself, ergo I was excited about Sine. I really wanted to love Sine. They just weren't comfortable enough for long listening sessions.
