Anyone else notice each of these WE collaborations getting steadily more expensive? Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but they're obviously trying to find what the upper limit is on what we'll pay for these.....

kennedyzeroNot really. The Gent was the 3rd (I think?) collab and it was less than $100. The Falcon and Crux were more.

kennedyzeroNope, we don't do that - sorry if it feels that way. What I would hope is actually obvious here is that the Thresher is a larger knife (more materials), and the first knife that is milled on both scales (more machine time). Prices are directly related to costs, and not raised arbitrarily in order to squeeze members. Quite to the contrary, we work hard to keep costs down and take advantage of our business model that, while it has evolved, remains predicated on reducing prices by leveraging the size of our community and connecting enthusiasts directly to manufacturers.

wtylerhansenThanks, that's what we were going for! Michal has three of the prototypes and was really impressed - we never release any models unless the designer has handled the production samples and signed off on them.

I actually own a Falcon and a Crux and I'm not saying WE won't do a good job, and really I'm not actually dissing the "value" of this in regards to other options, it's more a comment on the "value" in the knife world. I suspect, though I have absolutely no way of proving this mind you, that a lot of knives that are produced are highly overpriced compared to what they cost to make. I mean, you can buy a fucking TV for what this costs and a really, really nice TV for what some knives cost and TVS are fucking magic, this thing opens and closes. Fluctuation in the costs of substantially similar knives just adds to my suspicions. Ultimately I'm just shitposting and stirring the pot =)

JonasHeinemanEh, I have no way of offering a counterargument, because I'm not a manufacturer, machinist or purveyor of knives and I obviously have no access to your or WE's spreadsheets. But I will comment on my perception, and that's all it is, that it looks like you're finding the upper limit of what you can sell and have people instantly buy up. And that's the smart business decision, 100%. As it is the smart consumer decision to pay attention to trends in prices.

AstrodinosaurLook at the Buc and the Terzuola collab.... the Gent was definitely cheaper, but it was a different construction too. The Falcon and the Crux were much cheaper than this, even for the editions with extra milling.

kennedyzeroYou and the rest of the complainers clearly have no grasp on the price of titanium let alone machinging it compared to steel. Also the blade steel is imported to China which drives up the cost.

I can tell you why the Falcon was cheaper. If you go to http://www.ferrumforge.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html you will see that they are are offering an upsell. Now that you you got your affordable Falcon you can send it back to FF and they will spruce it up for a fee. I'm sure this was all planned in advance. Very smart business.

Ultimately the “worth” of something, at least in market terms, is determined by what people are willing to part with their hard-earned cash for, right? Lest anyone think I’m angry and actively bitching about the price of Massdrop knife collabs, that’s definitely not the case. I think they’re a great deal compared to alot of the rest of the market. I’m actually more curious about what it says that a Crux can be made and sold for $125 and other comparable knives cost a lot more; it makes sense that a company will charge whatever the market will bear.

kennedyzeroI purchased the Crux Blue Juggernaut (with upgraded handle), which has essentially the exact same materials as the Thresher, for $149.99. I think if they had priced the Thresher at $149.99 they would have sold all 1200 units. At $199.99 for the upgraded handle, I bet they don’t come close to selling 1200 units.

DougFLA123Do you know that thumbstuds take more work to manufacture and design a knife around than flippers do? That alone could significantly and justifiably contribute to the higher price. And do you also know that in collaborations like this, designers have a say in the pricing of the final product? And is $50 really a prohibitive difference for most people who buy knives like this? Even if one were to grant the argument you guys are making about the prices steadily getting higher (which is demonstrably not the case), every one of these Massdrop collabs has been a steal comparative to the rest of the knife market. When it's all said and done, you're complaining that the awesome deal you're getting isn't quite as awesome as the awesome deal you got last time. What a world.

AstrodinosaurI‘ve purchased the Falcon, the Falcon Wing, the Gent, the Crux Juggernaut, the Perpetua, the Prism, the Buc, the Terzuola, the Zinker Dogtooth, and the Laconico Keen. I’m not complaining, I’m just stating that they’re not going to sell 1200 units at this price. The prices have definitely been trending up.
