Impressions based on a few days listening. Macbook/Audirvana source from AIFF and Tidal, diy F6 amp, x-statiks. Main comparison is with AEd1. Immediate impression was of greater detail. At first, the mids and highs struck me as somewhat too analytic; but, with 5-10 minutes listening, I found the SDAC preferable to the d1. Somewhat better resolution from mid through high. Slightly increased instrument separation. My impression is that the d1 is slightly softer and less resolving. I could detect no difference in low to mid bass. It occurs to me now, however, that that is not a great strength of the xstatiks. d1 has a volume pot, so perhaps not a wholly fair comparison. But, after roughly 10 hours listening, SDAC will replace d1 in this system, d1 returns to desktop. SDAC was more engaging, and held my attention longer. Music primarily solo vocals, acoustic guitar, jazz, soul. It will take a very substantial investment to improve on the sdac in this system. I'm very pleased with this purchase. My initial verdict, before hearing from others, is the SDAC is outstanding value.

costlSDAC continues to be fantastic in my system, with hundreds of hours of use. Zero complaints, and only raves from me about sound and functionality. Clear and detailed. Extremely pleased with purchase.
Two observations and suggestions for future versions: (1) the red LED is very bright, and larger diameter than most other indicators in my system. I'd prefer it smaller diameter and less bright, so it does not outshine others. (2) When computer is powered on, but amp off, SDAC remains on when powered from USB. I tend to leave the mac on even when the amp is off, so SDAC remains powered on unless I unplug the USB. I'm torn about this, given the cost it would add, but I'd prefer a power switch on the rear of unit.
