Is this for real? If so, this will be the pack I recommend to all my friends when they ask me what to buy. It looks like a sweet pack. I had already read up a lot on the Crown 2 and it was generally one of the most recommended packs as is. This is a paradigm shift in value.
As for the hipbelt lumbar pack, I remember that companies like Lowe Alpine used to offer a strap on their lid so you could use it as a lumbar pack. However, it was pretty basic and just worked ok. The picture above that Danny posted looks like the lid and hipbelt were actually designed to be mated together.

PatCThanks for the nice note. Yeah, I remember seeing older packs that had the straps on the lid, and maybe some still do.
The Mountainsmith Lumbar Packs are really popular in our community, and this new X60 setup, at least for me, carries better and more comfortably than the lumbar packs. I think this may be due to the fact that the hipbelt is designed to carry 35 lbs, so handling 10 lbs is no sweat. And, the lid and two hipbelt pockets spread out the weight around my waist, as opposed to the Mountainsmith lumbar packs that carry the weight all in the back. To be clear, I really like the Mountainsmith packs and think they're great. I'm just making some quick comparisons here.
