Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. I would like to get at least 2 keyboards. One I would like to gift to a friend, but I don't want to spend an arm and leg on the gift. I would like to have the word "SCRABBLE" in the one that I gift, and would really like to have it in the one that I keep...
To end up with the keyboard that is the one on the TOP, what all needs to be purchased separately, from the keyboard itself?
Thank you, Brenda
My KLE image has just the basic ENTER key because I’m not knowledgeable enough to add “Scrabble” in its correct font in that web app.
KLE = Keyboard Layout Editor, which is a free online application you can use to make layouts for any keyboard you can think of - standard, alternative, or anything you can imagine. http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/
Also, Massdrop is running two drops concurrently: this one is selling a variety of key cap kits so people can order the kits they need to cover the keyboard(s) they already have. The other drop (I shared the link above) is a TKL keyboard that comes outfitted with Scrabble keycaps.
THANKS, Brenda
By any chance, are there any "special" keys that can be ordered, that are NOT on that keyboard pictured above?
Thank you so VERY much.
Brenda
But I don’t work for Massdrop, so I’m just speculating.
