angrynoiseI purchased these headphones on May 25th, so it would be a 4 month wait from when I purchased it to when they ship on September 30th. When did you buy them? So far it's been 2 months.

angrynoiseThey were supposed to ship August 3rd but have been delayed to September.
"Unfortunately, there was a delay in the shipment of parts from third party suppliers to HiFiMAN, which resulted in a production delay pushing the ship date back to September 30th.
To minimize the delay, HiFiMAN and Massdrop are splitting a $65,000 expense to upgrade the original sea freight shipping method to air freight. This additional expense reduces delivery time by 3-4 weeks, making it possible to ship by September 30th instead of what would have been October 30th."

Luka_MegurineYou are actually paying $65,000 to SPLIT the shipment. The vendor would pickup the entire expense as a good business practice. I find this statement very hard to believe.

DefbearNo Massdrop and HiFiMAN are splitting the shipping expense not us, since the price of the headphones doesn't go up for us, both companies are only losing margins of profit. The only thing we lose is time, I'm patient and have loads of time so I'll wait, if you can't, request your refund. They'll be happy to refund you.

Luka_MegurineAnd BTW, did you see the shipping contracts that they talk about ( the sharing of 130k loss on this drop)? I haven't. Start taking things with a grain (or two) of salt. From what I read in other comments , it's an ongoing thing. If I only knew this before paying.. If the site/ company is a "give us your money and maybe in a year you'll get your order - it should be disclosed on the landing page, or on any order page.
I'l be happy if these are "the poor man's HI-FIMan headphones, but the more I think about the price and look at the build quality in the pics plus the reviews online, they're veeery chinese.

Dragos68You've got a new email, if not, it's basically right underneath this comment (with pictures!) I don't know what your talking about with the shipping contracts and I'm sure the headphones will be amazing with build quality, looks, and performance (although heavy with treble and low bass quantity but high bass quality)
P.S. Isn't that a bit racist?

Dragos68I agree that the long delay is frustrating. And we should let MD knows. However, I do believe that this delay is out of their control since there is no reason MD would let this happen if they can avoid it. Quickly wrap up a deal and move on the next one is what every business wants. Problem in supply chain happens. That's on one of the biggest issue in production. If you think you think you can do batter than MD, go for it.
I am very curious about your comments - if you are suspicious about MD's business practices, why did you join the deal? If you are suspicious about the quality of the item, why did you join the deal? And I do not under stand about you comment of .... "veeery chinese"... Would you mind to elaborate?
Lastly, MD announced that anyone does not like to wait can ask for refund. Life is too short to to hold a grudge on something that's totally not worth it. Get your money back and go buy something else that makes you happy.

lo_tseI want to make some things v clear here. As a customer, I have every right to be unhappy about their business practices - because they screwed up on this drop ( and a few others from what I read) . Now , if they had made an "opt in list" without payments and when the product shipment were ready to go, then and only then -they charged your credit card, then I couldn't have had any objections about their supply line problems(which are out of their control maybe at this point), seeings how I am no money out of pocket, but am on a list to purchase WHEN AND IF THEY BECOME READY TO SHIP.
But to charge someone for a product and not ship for half a yr is not correct in principle and otherwise. Also, THE FIRST EMAIL from them I have received is TODAY, with the same message posted by @KUMAR above, only after bitching on this site, again is not a good business practice.
As far as the comment about build quality, it has nothing racist in it. I consider myself an informed consumer, and being an economist by trade, I understand certain chains of supply, and am knowledgeable of pricing practices , and policies. Would you care to tell me : with a selling price of 100$, what do you think the manufacturing cost is for these (or any other product), considering the parts supplier's profit, HIFIMAn's profit, MassDrop's profit, the shipping costs (3-way before them ever being shipped to you as a final product), the man hours invested by MassDrop to put all this together and to put out the fires resulting from this screw-up?
Anyway, as far as retiring from this drop, it's not worth doing anymore, because if I have waited this long, OBVIOUSLY I have purchased something else. These have become like a diamond necklace for my cat - totally pointless. I needed them THEN - NOT half a yr later. But hey, I paid the money, so I will wait for them. I the future, I will use MassDrop if I ever need a diamond necklace for my cat.

Dragos68If you read the first two sentences of my message, you should realize that I am with you about airing discontent to MD about the delay. You are right that as customers, we have the right to complaint about MD not keeping their schedule, even though it was due to something out of their control.
About their business practices, everyone (may be you are the exception) join the drop knows that money has to be paid up front and we got the goods later. That's stated clearly in every drop. If you do not like it, do not join. Since you joined, that means you agreed to it. I am not taking the side of MD but it is not fair to complain about this practice at this point. You (we) are not happy about the delay, focus the complaint on the delay. Looked like MD screwed up on sending the email notification on the delay to you in a timely manner, yes, you should complain about their customer service.
I think it is fair to say that we all have a feel of what we are getting for the money we paid when we saw this deal, As the saying goes, one got what one paid for. I am sure you do too since you are an informed consumer. Then the question is why did you join the deal if you think the quality is not commensurate with the price you paid?
This is my first MD purchase and I am not happy about how it is going. To be honest, when MD kept extending the deadline and the number of purchases kept going up to the thousands, I was feeling a little worry. I was worry that the deal is getting very big and MD/Hifiman might have problem handling it. Well, I guess my gut feel materialized.

Dragos68Oh for christ sake, all this rubbish for $99. There's drops on this site that go up to +$1000. I can tell you've never ever bought exclusive stuff, there's always delays and that is how it works. Go buy your regular best buy headphones and stop wasting our time, seriously, just by reading this comment I lost more than $99. Please Massdrop, next exclusive stuff you want to drop, don't make it cheap so this type of buyers can't get a hold on it.

freddyr0Exclusivity is an illusion my friend. There are good headphones, better headphones available around the same price point. Extended drop, delayed processing, delayed shipping. Bad logistics and bad management. If this is how they treat people who spend 99 bucks then what's to stop them from treating those that are spending 1000 the same way.

MrFattingtonYou need to understand that this is not MDs fault... all massdrop does is get people together to get lower prices on things. they have no part in the making and proccessing of the headphones, that would be HiFiman so getting mad at MD for this is insane. PLUS Hifiman was expected to make 2071 of these within 2 months all while having to make all of their other products. HiFiman doesn't make every individual part for these the buy most of the parts and put them together to make the product. so when they put in an order for lets say 4142 50mm drivers to the company they buy them from that company just got hit with a big order that they have about about 2 to 3 weeks to fill depending on the amount of time shipping's going to take then HiFiman has about the same time to make the headphones and package and ship each one individual to each person. not only that but the company that makes the 50mm drivers have to go through the same proccess so a delay is expected and hard to avoid. Does the delay suck? Yes. Is it any ones fault? No. Do you need to attack Massdrop for this? No and if you do you need to grow up.

MrFattingtonWith all due respect, how is Exclusivity an illusion? If I make 100 copies of one product and select a single seller to sell them, it is going to be exclusive for those who buy those 100 products from that particular seller. It is not an illusion, it is in the dictionary: "restricted or limited to the person, group, or area concerned." This product only sells here on massdrop, everywhere else you see this product you can be certain that it was bought on massdrop. Regards.
