how are the cables called which the headphones are coming with? Or are there some custom cables with the same connectors which can be bought? pls if possible link some websites with that kind of custom cables.thanks
Ph1l1ppPictures show these do not use the SMC connector HifiMan is usually known for. Seems to use a standard 3.5mm (or maybe 2.5mm?) jack into each earcup. Wont know the connector size for sure until we get them in hand.
N0gaiIt might be so that you can plug the cables in either side and not have it change which side the left and right is. Not sure if that's actually the case but it would make sense.
EniGmA1987May I ask how that exact model is called? I'd just like to know what a replacement cable would cost me if I somehow managed to break mine (which I do quite a lot).
N0gaiGo to hifiman's website and try finding one that matches, If there is nome wait for it to arrive and any cable that matches the HE-350s should work (If you break the cable the day it arrives, something wrong is right)
LucasPMagnoI wanted to have another option when buying the cable, because hifiman is located in the USA and shipping/customs are an annoying thing to deal with.
LucasPMagnoI tried, but so far I had a really hard time finding a dual 2,5mm cable. I could still go with some ghettosetup with 2 seperate 2,5mm cables or something (the hifiman originals are absurdly expensive, at least the ones listed on their website right now).
But hey, I was told that the cable is really nice, so maybe I manage to not break it.
N0gaiLooking at the picture in the drop, they do appear to be stereo. As mentioned above, the only reason I can think of to use stereo is so that you can't get the connection wrong (left in right and vice versa). If that's the case, mono probably won't work. I'll try to remember to test and comment when mine finally get here.
N0gaiCalifornia Headphone Co. doesnt make the headphones anymore unfortunately, and their cables were not very good anyway. I dont know where to buy a replacement cable other than HifiMan, but I just made my own. I can use better quality stuff doing it myself but it can be a bit tricky to solder a 2.5mm connector if you dont have prior soldering experience.
crutonjohnI'm going to wait until I have them to see if I need to replace the cable. Zreviews didn't hate the cable (and he's not shy about complaining about cables)
TheChrisAgeI was more concerned with length. I hate managing the excess cable that most headphones come with, and have had very positive experience in the past with this particular cable.
crutonjohnThe Sennheisers seem to use mono 2.5mm plugs on the headphone side, while these supposedly use stereo plugs, which might cause some connectivity issues. Not sure why it would use stereos...
PercyJaxStereo is used because it makes the cables reversible. That way you do not have to line up L and R like with Mono cables.
Since the left can will use 1 pole and the right can will use a different pole. Its most likely that the cables linked with mono plugs will not work like you suggested.
You will most likely get interference.
IMO the stereo plugs is a much smarter design.
crutonjohnThat cable is almost the same as the one I have here, and since my HE-350s arrived today, I went ahead and tested with the HD700 cable. I have no idea why Hifiman uses stereo 2.5mm jacks, but the mono ones work just as well. I checked that left/right were coming in correctly, and I also tested with the Hifiman cable and reversing the plugs does reverse left/right, so as far as I can tell, they aren't using the extra contact on the stereo jacks for anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
PacketCollisionThank you PacketCollision for testing. I still haven't received my Hifimans yet so I haven't been able to test. Thanks for updating everybody!
