Bass Mods, Treble and Pads....
My personal take on the bass mod is this; keep the hole 1/2 open. Removing the sticker completely adds a lot of muddy bass and hurts the mids.
For treble, I didn't use paper towel. I used a perforated kitchen cabinet liner. It allows the mids to come through crystal clear and softens the treble juuuuust a touch while keeping the wide sound stage.
As for pads; if you're like me and discovered that your head is indeed kinda big when you put these on; you may also discover that the Brainwavz HM5 angled pleather pads increase the bass in a very desirable way; but also add more clamp . Well, good news! The standard HM5 pads are more comfortable and when combined with half of the bass mod and a bigger opening for your ears making these cans way more comfortable.

DacerPAbout a dozen pages back, there are instructions to increase the bass with these by removing the back covers and removing the stickers on the back of the drivers to increase the bass. When you do this, the bass does increase noticeably, but it hurts the clarity in the mids. I recommend that if you do this mod, you leave the hole half covered.

TheChrisAgeI see, ok I may look into that. Also, just wanted to say that I do agree that the mids is a little recessed with paper towel.

DacerPThis is what my wife lined the kitchen cabinets with. I used this behind the HM5 standard pleather pads instead of tissues or paper towels. It helps cut down the highest highs and helps the mids shine.

TheChrisAgeSorry, I don't quite get what you mean. Do you mean that the pads add more clamp, but end up more comfortable?

TheChrisAgeThat is a great idea...thanks so much will have to try this as I left mine burn in for 7 days [24/7] and the highs were still too much.

mdr944I just did the electronic mod to mine and the highs are no longer a problem, in fact this headphone now sounds amazing. https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/hifiman/he350/
