RazyThey are quite different. Hard to compare an open back to closed. The Hifiman is definitely lighter on the bass. Don't get me wrong, they have good, solid bass, but it's light. I'm driving them with a custom JDS labs Element that has a C5D bass boost built in, and with that they are right on the money for me. Soundstage is better than the DT's, and highs are quite similar. I thought I had found the worlds most comfortable headphones in the DT770's, and that might have been true, until I got the Hifimans :) Especially with the Dekoni pads! I instantly forget I have them on :)
In short: I'm keeping both the DT's, and the Hifiman's!
esmBOSWell, for the music genre metal
what would you prefer?
In terms of sound
What headphones and what genres you play better in your opinion?
And what your source is to the headphones?
RazyYou'll have to give me a few days with the Hifiman's, as I got them yesterday :) Right now I feel like I'd lean towards the DT's for metal. Mostly for the impactful sub-bass the DT770's (80Ohm) provide.
I'm running both the DT's and the Hifiman's off the JDS labs amp I mentined in my last post, hooked up to a HRT HD DAC -> my PC. I use Spotify and MediaMonkey as media sources.
pmronlineSuper easy! You just detach the attachment rings, fit them on the pads (no force needed) and basically click them back into place. Took me 2 minutes.
RazyI use them for nothing but metal: that's all I listen to of my own volition and although these are my first full-sized cans, they destroy all of my iems, including the RE-600. I have applied the single layer of paper towel mod, though now I'm not sure it did much. Either way, I'd choose these over all my other headphones based on sound and comfort, even though they aren't portable or isolating..
PingsNot much I'm afraid. It's a prototype model of the Element that, as I mentioned, includes the C5D bass boost circuitry. Only 2 were ever made, and I don't think it's planned for production. Point is that I think the 350's really can benefit from using an amp that includes a bass boost of some sort.
OlgHag97They are Dekoni for Beyerdynamic DT series. Got them right here on massdrop :) There has been at least 2 drops for these pads so far. There is currently no running drop, but go and request them and join the next drop!
esmBOSHave you tried them with the bass mod? How does it sound? I did the mod and the bass make the listening more pleasant, but the mid and high get muddle a little. If possible I would want to reverse the mod and add the pad, but still not sure.
OlgHag97Just tried the mod. Luckily it was easy to undo :) I did it only on one side for testing purpouses. I then closed my eyes and had my wife randomly turn the headphones around for me (so I wouldn't know wich side was modded by seing L or R). I didn't hear any improvment in bass on any side. The highs were completely lost on the modded side. I could identify the modded side instantly on every try thanks to this. The mids lost alot of definition and texture, so the mod was a big nono for me! The pads make a much bigger difference for the bass quantity, without sacrificing any mid or high quality. My 2c
ErwinCepedaNo need to look! I order all my cables from http://forzaaudioworks.com/en/ Haven't ordered any new ones for the HE350's yet thought as I'm quite happy with the stock cable, for now ;)
ErwinCepedaEDIT: The KetDirect and I think the Neomusicia cables listed there will NOT work. I just got the KetDirect one in and it has no sound. These headphones use stereo input jacks but they take the audio off of the "tip" of both sides, so a cable that sends stereo audio to both sides will not work right. It will either get only left channel audio on both sides or not work at all.
Both look good. I do not think the models with only mono 2.5mm sides will work due to the jack design on these headphones but that dual stereo 2.5mm should work. I will check for sure later today, but I am fairly certain that the jack inside the headphones simply pulls off of a different pin for getting L and R. I do remember that the jack is a 3 pin stereo jack in each earcup.
As for myself, I just bought stuff today to make myself a balanced cable so I can get even better sound out of these with my balanced amp :D
