So I am getting my first set of headphones. I dont plan on modding it at all. I saw the AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphone is also on sale here. I mostly listen to rock music. While I dont mind sound bleed, I would prefer it not to. Which one is better for me?

Link286These headphones are good, but I would only consider them if you are going to mod them. The high's are just too piercing when stock.

Link286I don´t think that K553 are suitable for rock. Sure, they will sound better than 50$ headphones, but you will get no goosebumps :) They are amazing when playing clean vocals with piano/guitar, but add more instruments and speed and they start to fade, everything blends together. Too often I feel that the intro and ending of track sound awesome, while chorus not so much.
HE-350 are super bright and fatiguing, I have put toilet paper between driver and earpads + lowered 5-15kHZ in EQ to be even able to listen to them. Bass mod makes everything muddy and I am not brave enough to do electronics mod :) They soud amazing in one track, awful in another in the same album. Sure, they have great soundstage and handle rock/metal much better than K553, but my head still hurts after an hour of listening. Will try them with amplifier (Fiio A3), if it does not help significantly, I am going to sell them. After 5 months of waiting and so much hype. *Sighs*

Link286FYI, the frequency response graphs in product page are on the edge of false advertising, these are much more accurate to my ears: https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/hifiman/he350/ the 11kHZ spike is +10 db and feels like mosquito inside eardrum...

Link286my opinion; if you can, look in your local classifieds for second hand headphones around the same price (that aren't beats) and go and listen to them. don't buy the first pair, or the second (be up front with the seller that you want to demo them) and then make an informed choice. it's a very personal decision. if you have the time to do this you will find something that suits you much more than choosing between a couple of headphones on massdrop.

baesexThat is a good idea. Thanks for the help. I just got excited from all the hype they have in their add. Best to wait for a bit. Do headphones actually go on sale during black friday? I know the crappy beats, skullcandy...etc brands do. But do the actually good companies have sales?
