MrDynamicManIn case I enter this drop - which depends on Black Friday this week and if there show up irresistable offers for the 400 - I can compare with my DT990 Ed

BaderaSo they are similar? I'm deciding between the two.

MrDynamicManI have no idea as I do not own the HE-350 yet. If I find a good HE-400 deal this Friday, I won't go for the HE-350, if not, I am in. Based on the special Beyer sounding I'd guess (!) that the HE-350 should be much smoother in the highs (although some complain about the HE highs here?!) and more neutral in general. No idea about stage of the HE-350, so it would also just be guessing which I try to avoid. If you want to go for the DT990 be prepared for raised highs.

MrDynamicManI have the 990 pros which are relatively the same somewhat to the premiums. The He-350 has stronger mids, better male/female vocals, and sharper treble than the 990. 990 Has great sub bass, and sounds quite fun for alternative music. I own both, and love them both for having differen sound signatures. Another thing about the HE-350 is that it has weak sub bass, but very punchy mid bass. When the drummer of a band kicks that bass drum, you really hear it on the he-350.

meowmixmeowThanks for the reply!
and how would both of those compare to the dt770? This is my first foray into 100+ cans and I want to make sure I get the right fit. Currently own cloud2s for comparison.

meowmixmeowThe HE-350 has sharper treble than the 990? WTF? The 990 already has sharp trebles ("Beyer peak")... If the HE-350 has even sharper treble, it *must* be clearly too much. The 990 treble already keeps many people from buying/liking them.

MrDynamicMan@Badera That's what i heard too when I was in search for headphones a year or so ago. I also heard the premium 990 had more elevated treble than the pro. I heard a lot of bad things about the 990 on the forum, seems as if on head fi they've got that underdog impression with people either really loving it, or saying its too sibilant. When they said it had a fun V-shape sound frequency, I decided to jump in and pick up a used set on Ebay that were 250 ohm. After picking up an dac/amp to power my 250 ohm dt-990, my ath-m50x became super boring and my Sennheiser Momentum headphones became my back up, study at the library kind of headphones while the 990 took the throne for everyday use. I find the treble to be elevated on the 990, but not to the point where a lot of people claim it to be "unbearable".
@MrDynamicMan I had a year old DT-770 250 ohm that I ended up giving to my dad. People said those have a lot of bass, but one thing that the 990 had was that deep sub bass that was super good for movies and explosions. They were decently good, but the 990 pro and he-350 I liked more. I think, just acquiring open back headphones and coming from closed back was the more mind blowing thing for me. You get such a wide soundstage, and you also have an easier time pinpointing where sounds are coming from with open headphones. With whatever headphone you go with, I'd say dip your toes in any open back cans. With the He-350, lots of people are having trouble with the treble. I ended up putting 2x2-ply tissue paper (making it a total of 4-ply) to calm down the highs a bit. Since it was only 99 dollars, I opened them up and started doing my own kind of mods and testing them to see what sound I like.

MrDynamicManThe build quality alone on the Beyerdynamic is superior, plus all of the parts are replaceable and they are super comfortable. I prefer the DT990 at this price point. Geez! You can get a DT990 "Like New" on Amaz0n for $118 w/ three year warranty that's crazy!

meowmixmeowThanks for such a good reply! I'm pulling the trigger on my Dt990 as we speak!
Also, do you have any mic recommendations? I've been eyeing up the blue yeti, but I'm sure there's something better out there. USB is a must, I don't feel like messing around with pre amps and phantom power, etc.
